Sound Breaks Up When Recording One Channel

I recently installed two HD HomeRun Dual TV tuners that connect to my Wi-Fi router and use WMC to record programs and watch them later. It works well on all channels except one. I can receive that channel just fine directly on my TV (the same antenna feeds the tuners and the TV) and I can watch that channel on my computer when using HD HomeRun's viewing software but, when I try to record anything on that one channel with WMC, the video comes through just fine but the sound is completely broken up. Any guesses why?

Try swamping the two antenna connections around. Double check you have not got something strange selected in the audio mode on that station for example SAP or the wrong Digital audio channel. Check you have the sound set to Stereo. What is the channel? Check the signal strength and if digital the errors. Sometimes having a strong signal full of errors is worse than a weak signal which is error free.Have you emailed them to determine if there is a problem with their equipment?

Thanks, Tony. I'm reasonably certain it is a problem with WMC, not the tuners. I had the problem when just using one dual tuner so the antenna connection isn't the problem. Both when using just one dual tuner and when using two, I could use the tuner manufacturer's TV viewing software to watch that channel (45.2 in the Phoenix, AZ area) without any problems (still can). It's only WMC that has the audio breakup problem, both when watching live TV through it and when watching a recording.

Sound is set to Stereo.

I don't have a way to check signal strength.

Thanks for responding, Jack. I have no doubt you would have helped if you could have, Jack. You didn't get all that rep by not being helpful. I realize there are going to problems that no one can solve. My comments were just using humor to bump the thread in a less boring way than simply typing "bump" and to defuse my frustration. The last post was more just my wacky way of saying I had given up.

You can check the signal strenght in WMC by going to Settings, TV, Set up your TV Signal.........For best signal you should have all green bars. Also is it mountainous where you live? Could you accidentally be on a repeater relay or booster station rather then the main station. I helped someone in Virginia who was picking up a relay station on an island off the coast rather then the main station. I am familier with that issue myself as one of our local stations CW is on real Ch9 but shows CH8. They also have a UHF booster on Ch17 which also shows CH8. I get both on my outdoor aerial. UHF is weaker and goes up and down and breaks up in bad weather and the Ch9 main signal does not. Apparently the booster relay is for parts of Indianapolis where the Ch9 signal is very poor, a hilly part near the station masts and not meant for me at all.

I tried checking signal strength of 45.2 on WMC as you described. At first, the signal showed as non-existent (which is absurd since I get a decent picture) then WMC started scanning all the channels one at a time and the station then showed five bars. I tried doing a recording after that and still got the choppy audio. What's curious is 45.1 and 45.3 are all broadcast from the same place and 45.1 and 45.3 come in just fine. I contacted the station and they assured me that 45.2 had the same settings as 45.1 and 45.3 so that probably eliminates a DRM issue.

I have a powered signal splitter on order to see what happens if I throw that into the works. Even though I have an omnidirectional (more or less) amplified antenna, the signal gets split by a passive splitter; one side goes to the TV and the other side goes through the DC injector/isolator, then on to the tuners. Before I put in the second dual tuner, I didn't have the passive splitter inline and still had the same problem. The tuners are also unable to pick up three out of town channels that come from a local repeater that the TV can pickup but the tuners cannot. Even if the amp won't fix the sound issue on 45.2, it might fix the other three channels. If not, I'll look into if the repeaters for the three are on a different channel.

I picked up the amp last Friday and spent part of this afternoon hooking it up. It was too strong and overpowered the tuners so I ripped it out and reinstalled everything, only, this time, permanently, with tuners Velcroed to the wall (I checked with the manufacture and they said it was OK to do so) of the linen closet in my bathroom (more room there) where my network hardware is housed on a shelf and the cables neatly routed. I made exact length coax cables but had to bundle the cables coming from the tuner PSUs to avoid voiding the warranty and bundle the Ethernet cables because making custom ones is difficult due to me being colorblind.



After "playing" with the installation (I'll pay for tomorrow), I checked the settings for the tuners and found out there was a firmware update so I downloaded and installed it. When I checked again, the three missing channels (7.1, 7.2, 7.3) were there. I then went into WMC, enabled 7.1 and 7.2 (7.3 is a shopping channel, zzzzzzzz), but found out 45.2 still chopped up the audio and, now, channel 35.4 and 8.4 have chopped audio. I can't win for losing! I checked the signal strength in WMC and 45.2 and 8.4 are still showing five bars. 35.4 is showing only three bars but so are a bunch of other stations and they work just fine.
