Hey, it took MS several months to get IE-11 working.

True but IE11 is a complex program this is just lazy testing.

And Windows isn't complex?

Windows is complex but the update was a tiny part of it. The rapidity with which the problem surfaced is a good indication that it should have been picked up in testing.

That's version 10 of the same KB that's been around since last year. Apparently, MS doesn't have it right yet.

there are a number of updates that get updated on a periodic basis. the classic one is the MSRT one. So MS haven't got that right yet either??

MSE definitions come on the same KB number too so what's your point? This one is different. It's a KB known by MS to be a problem and this is the 10th attempt to correct it. It's still not right.

My Windows 7 computer didn't get the corruption from that update but my Windows 8.1 tablet did.

I cannot get the sfcfix.exe on Win 7 to fix all corrupted files, 8 0f 26 fixed. Problem is I have no browsers that will work, email does not work, using laptop right now

The corruptions aren't present until the telemetry parameters get updates by the phone-home system

beginner here on this problem, I have uninstalled the update ran sfcfix fro win 7. I can use everything on desktop but browsers emails programs. Will a clean install work or just wait until MS does a fix

I recently upgraded to a SSD on my Dell Laptop. I transferred my OS (Windows 7 x64) but it had a lot of errors so I restored back to factory settings and began to do updates. I got through them, but now anytime I need to run an update, like to install smartboard software (I am a teacher), it searches forever, as this thread discusses. I ran the sfc /scannow and it said that there are no errors. I ran the SFCFix just in case, and still a clean bill of health -- no corrupted files to fix. Yet, the problem persists. Any ideas?

If it doesn't install, stop "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" (Win+R then services.msc) and try again.
See if this fixes the issue.

Unfortunately this did not fix the issue. I stopped the background intelligence transfer service and tried running the specified update, only for it to respond with "Searching for updates on this computer" incessantly.

Alright, a bit more steps:
Stop and disable 3 services
- BITS (as above)
- windows update
- superfetch

Restart just in case
Try installing after restart - it may warn some required component is not running (or similar)
If it doesn't run, change Windows Update back to Auto (delayed) and start it.
Try installing right after - don't wait.
Change BITS back to auto (delayed) and superfetch to auto and restart.
Hopefully this should do it.
