I noticed when I was beta testing the RC, I got a stronger signal on my adapter. When I went back to Vista, it got a weaker signal. My guess it's the Operating System making it better.

Or reporting it differently.
That would be my guess too. "Signal strength" is not determined by software, but the electrical characteristics of the transmission and receiving of the RF signal. Unless you changed the power supply or motherboard too, the RF signal should be the same. So that leaves antenna orientations, obstacles, interference and distance. Assuming you did not change the AP's or adapter's antenna orientations, add a wall or two between the two, or move the computer further away, the strength would remain the same.

That leave interference - which can come from many outside sources (other networks, microwaves, etc.) - or, again, the reporting.

Can you provide specifics?

I never changed my parts at all. It just changed in signal as soon as I went back to Vista. That's why I assume it's the Operating Systen.

That or the algorithm that turns the strength to number of bars is different.

Same here, the wireless signal strength is much better on seven, and now I see more APs than in XP/Vista.
Using the microsoft driver for a broadcom adapter.
