Derek, I have the Deluxe, I think he has the Sabertooth. But, he probably has that switch too. I think they all do.

No, I imagine he has the TPU too. All Asus boards do as far as I know. I just never use them.

I didn't notice he had his board in other info in his specs and went by what I thought was his purchased list.

No big deal, it was interesting looking it up. That sounded like the area he was describing so I went with it.

Mike, on my board there are 2 lights at the bottom right. One is a Boot Device LED, which should only show if it can't find the boot device. The other is the TPU light (trusted Platform Unit (or something) which only comes on if it is enabled.) I don't enable it. As far as I am aware it is for automatic overclocking.

You are thinking of TPM (Trusted Platform Module) which is used with Bitlocker. I don't know what TPU stands for but you are correct that it is for automatic overclocking.

If you have no System partition besides C then you didn't install to UEFI so will not have all features of the BIOS.

I don't want bit locker to ever get activated even on purpose
Otherwise bios looks pretty complete as is = actually way over my head as it is

I don't really want to go through all of the fuss of secure boot if I want to boot to a flash drive....
I'm guessing that is one of the features your referring too ?

I'm only using 1 ssd at a time with my easy hot swap evo pretty much why I got a 500gb ssd for this install

If I install win-8.1 pro it will also be installed the same way probably on a 256gb ssd but no system reserved partition

I got the Corsair link software installed
Got security up and running MSE and MBAM Premium I only have 1 more license left

I guess I should see about asus utilities to check for cpu driver updates along with the chip set ?
The utilities themselves were not on the disk that I noticed :/
Mostly just outdated drivers I'm guessing ?

There is no Secure Boot in Windows 7. It is a Windows 8 feature only and needs disabling for any other OS if present.

We are now past the BIOS era and into the era of UEFI Firmware. It offers graphical BIOS, mouse support, supposedly faster boots (mixed reports), more stability and better security.

While we still have the ability to install to Legacy BIOS, every day we help people here to install to UEFI so they can experience the full features of the new BIOS UEFI Firmware. This is no longer impossible in some cases, or even more trouble than its worth.

What I would not want to do is go without knowing how UEFI performs by comparison. On my rigs I have never gone back to BIOS. None ever require boot repair either, giving me the impression now after 2-3 years that UEFI is more stable.

I would recommend being very careful of Corsair Link. Some report of nothing but problems.
That has been quite some time ago so they may have the problems worked out by now.

Thanks Jack yep I just use it to adjust the cpu fans and that's about it if I need to it's on default now so I did switch to balanced just to see if it made any difference and it did speed them up a bit or even them out = balance

Greg as far as I know the bios themselves is indeed UEFI it's just the os is in I guess legacy mode,
When I used 8-8.1 the install with no other drives connected made no difference in taking 8.1 ssd out and inserting win-7 ssd in they booted as if neither knew anything about each other = just the way I liked it,
whether doing it now like that makes any difference I don't know I have not tried

4th of July sells for win-8.1 pro might give me a chance to see because I'll get it if not to badly priced right now at 140.us is way too much 99.00 is more like it and lower is better

It's not really clear to me reading their blog's latest: Upcoming changes to Windows 10 Insider Preview builds [UPDATED 6/22]

It now seems to say that TP will be upgraded to RTM but must still have Win7/8 associated with it. I haven't had Win7 on the drive for months so I wonder how will that work?

Greg I'm not sure how deep that rabbit hole goes as far as what all has to be connected to a M$ account
Computer login or if a local account will still be permitted and only a single app like the insiders hub
I do know the insiders hub will not be included in build updates so someone would have to manually add that feature or app.

But no home premium will not be upgraded to 10 rtm by no means for myself.
I do believe he did update the blog a couple days ago.

You'll get the RTM build and it will stay activated (as have all previous builds) but will get new builds before the updates are issued to the general public. It's not an RTM copy as such, just an insider version of the same build. I think there was a lot of misinterpretation when it came to Gabe's Tweet (perhaps it could have been worded better) and that led to a hell of a lot of confusion. Twitter probably isn't the best medium to convey messages like that given the character restriction.

Or maybe things will change. I've no idea really.

Mike, there is, sort of. I did not like the Asus utilities in the X99. The ones for the Z77 I liked better. But, you are better off not using them. It is mostly for software overclocking, which you really do not want to do. If you overclock it, do it by hand in BIOS. Plus, the Asus Suite causes some people a lot of stability problems. I installed them at first, but then uninstalled them after I found what they did. Just check your Motherboard web site every so often and look for newer drivers than what you have (https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_X99/) With Nvidia, the GeForce Experience will tell you if there is a new driver, but it causes a lot of people problems too. It's easy every couple of months to check Nvidia for new drivers.
Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers. It really isn't hard and it does not take but a few minutes to check Motherboard drivers. Go by the date and you will know whether it is new or not.

I briefly scrolled through the bios a lot of research that stuff I'll have to do :/
Tried just to identify some of the fans and couldn't tell one from another adjusting the speeds seems nothing changes I read I can rename them but that didn't have any obvious way either ?

I'm assuming possibly I have to make a new profile to do anything or switch to another profile ?

That is commonly referred to as Overclocking. But, don't ask me for advice on that one. I still haven't figured out these X99 boards yet. I have mine overclocked, but I have no clue if it is right. I just know it is stable and works.

Just enable core sync in the bios, then raise the core maximum turbo to whatever you want, raise all the cores to 4.2 or 4.4 Mike

That is if those cpu`s have the Turbo feature.

That way you`re not locked at a constant OC speed.
