Struggling getting Bluetooth to work with phone/tablet/at all

Hi,

I am really struggling with Bluetooth on Win7 x64 Ultimate on a laptop. I have a cheap CSR USB dongle which came with CSR 4.0 Bluetooth drivers. I did manage to get most of it working at one point but I always had a device manager error. I cannot use the supplied drivers as the install fails with an invalid call to some 32-bit dll.

If I just plug the device in it shows up in device manager as a CSR bluetooth device but nothing works and I don't get an icon in the system tray.

If I then go into device manager and change the driver to the Generic Bluetooth Adaptor I was largely able to get it working with a single Device Manager Error. I was able to pair with my Nokia X2-00, Advent Tegra note (Android 4.4), another phone and a car ODBC diagnostic dongle.

Months later (now) I decided to try the Toshiba Stack to see if it could clear the error. but I could not get it to work at all. I think I have fully uninstalled the drivers and cleared out all remaining entries in device manager.

I've reinstalled the Generic Bluetooth Adaptor but I can only get it to pair with my phone by repeatedly disconnecting the dongle. Once paired and while it is loading the drivers it disconnects and will not reconnect until I re-pair the devices. The Nokia icon in the Control Panel has a yellow exclamation mark. When I right-click on Nokia icon > Connect Using > Access Point I see the laptop on the phone until the laptop times out with a connection failed message. The laptop could not see the Note at all until I started this article! I have paired it now but it has found only one out of 3 drivers (the remote control one).

I have no idea what I can try now. I know the phone can maintain a connection but is not doing so any more. Any advice would be appreciated. Also if I have posted to the wrong section, I apologise and am happy to have the thread moved.

TIA,

Nick

I just came across this post and you're System Specs are good but missing the exact model name and model number of the Dell, usually somewhere on the case. It's quite critical to know as Dell [and other OEMs] will use the same model name but different model numbers depending upon what they put in the computer, for instance some models will have Bluetooth and some of the same name won't so the number is needed. Also with Dell is their Service Tag number, usually on a sticker on the case, bottom of a Notebook or in the Notebooks battery compartment.

Sorry late reply and yes mate as Berton says anything that ID's that particular machine as contiguous models very often have either large or very small differences.

For example Toshiba have a part number that tells one exactly where the machine was made or made for.

Nick that machine has a Blu tooth in built device and the driver is here http://www.dell.com/support/home/au/en/aubsd1/product-support/product/latitude-e6220/drivers see pic - it is listed under Network section and of course youhave all the others too

Mate you shouldn't need a dongle - I thought it odd at the time because even my old Toshiba (around sane vintage has Blu tooth for which I use a mouse. Now having said that it took me a bit of fiddling around to get that mouse to work but it did eventually only because it was an el cheapo form EBay;)

Hi,
A while ago I opened it up and could not see the bluetooth module. I cannot check the BIOS as my wife got the laptop from work when she was made redundant but we did not think of the BIOS password at the time. I am not sure if you can unlock this series of laptops and it was looking a lot cheaper to get a USB dongle rather than risk Fleabay.

My mistake Derek I was after the driver for his region and came up with thatlink after seeing this http://www.dell.com/uk/business/p/latitude-e6220/pd The other way of finding out about the Blu tooth I to go here Drivers & Downloads | Dell UK and auto detect the machine. For a fairly recent machine I would be surprised if there were not a Blu tooth capability.

There has been an ongoing issue with an old Dell very recently and if that thread is anything to go by the BIOS password if needed is going to be a real pain.

That is a reasonable approach John, and seeing drivers offered would suggest it had Bluetooth.

I used your same link in post #7 but refined the search with the service tag offered in post #6,

Hi,
I've updated my system specs. It is a Dell Latitude E6220 without Bluetooth (hence USB dongle). Service tag is GD8PGT1.

Hi,

I am really struggling with Bluetooth on Win7 x64 Ultimate on a laptop. I have a cheap CSR USB dongle which came with CSR 4.0 Bluetooth drivers.
<snip>
Don't know if this will help but if it's a CSR 4.0 dongle, I happened across this CSR Harmony Bluetooth Stack download post is worth a look
