Running Win 7 Pro SP1. Was using automatic update and install. June 26, 2015 update of KB3065987 downloaded and installed. I'm using Windows Live Mail 2012. Opened email after download of KB3065987 and had no link to email server (Earthlink.net). Nothing was available and all contact lists and category lists were gone. Immediately uninstalled KB3065987 and rebooted. System returned to correct operational state. No damage. Turned off automatic updates.

Concerned that this wart hog update will be included in Win 10. Not looking forward to this mess in my Win 10 version of Windows Live Mail.

The update is designed to allow network administrators to block attempts to update domain-based machines to Windows 10 - I don't really see how this could possibly have affected Live Mail unless there's also other functionality involved.

Does it do anything else ? like anything useful ?

i've just been presented with 3 updates, one important (3035583) which i'd already hidden  and another related to getting my machine ready for Win10 (which it will never have) the other optional one was 2952664, which again i'd already hidden, and this one.

so if what you said is all it does, i'll not bother installing it either

KB3035583 and 2952664 were updated and re-issued - which is why they re-appeared (and will probably keep reappearing until the end of July 2016 as MS tweak them every month or so)

You should actually install this one - because you can then block the others permanently using GP ;)

Hi NoelDP. I don't intend to upgrade to Win 10 and have hidden numerous times all the updates pertaining to this, including KB3065987 once as well.

My question is: what is using GP and how to do it? Please have in mind that I'm a noob so need an easy to understand procedure in how to do it. Thanks in advance.

PS: numerous people are hiding the updates for Win 10 so I'm not the only one who keeps on hiding the repeating updates for Win 10.

Group Policy allows you to control certain actions of your PC, and forbid others - I am not an expert on it, since it's normally a function of Domain System Administrators - and I almost never work in such an environment.
It should in theory be possible to block the specific win10 updates permanently - but I have no idea how.
I'll put a call out to see if anyone else here has any ideas how to do this.

Thanks NoelDP. I did a quick google re GP and found out what it means. However it stated that GP is not available to Windows 7 Home Premium. Am looking forward to an answer though in case KBKB3065987 could change that. Thanks again.

I would never use a windows mail program, learned that lesson a long long time ago, better to use your isp or something like yahoo, look at your mail on any pc anywhere in the world, and never loose anything until you delete it.

Where did I get the idea you were running Pro from?
Possibly simply because it's an update that really only applies to Pro and higher...but in this case it's being installed for compatibility/consistency reasons, so you'd only see whatever other functionality it may have.

Sorry about the confusion!

Thank you all guys for your help to explain all. If these updates to upgrade to Win10 keep on coming after having them hidden already 3-4 times, I will keep on doing that if they come along again.

Second desktop different spec but similar level.
KB3065987 will not install on my Windows 7 Pro computer. Every time it does and fails that one client computer will no longer back up to a HP Windows Home Server. I have wasted hours trying to resolve this issue. After the failure to load this update the computer fails to take a snapshot of its state so a backup can begin.

Even though I only have Windows 7 Home Premium, I can testify to one thing that KB3065987 actually does. It corrects an obvious memory leak in Windows Update that I have experienced, along with others:

https://social.technet.microsoft.co...fd1a5b4/windows-update-scan-high-memory-usage

Without this update, I can hit "Check for Updates" and watch svchost climb to 2GB of RAM allocation within seconds. With it, Windows Update behaves as I manually check for updates.

I think there is still some lingering issue, since my computer intermittently crashes and blames my wireless drivers, but only on some days Windows Update was scheduled to automatically do something. Still, it is much better than the previous problem.
