That's the first time I've ever heard of a reason to upgrade to 10 to transfer 30 viruses to it

Built my first computer (8Mhz 8088cpu, 640K RAM, 20MB HDD, 2 360K floppy drives) in 1985 and have been building them for myself, relatives and friends ever since.
When it gets to Windows 10 SP1 I may consider it. Why wouldn't you expect it to be buggy to start with. As I mentioned software compatibility remains an issue for me. As one example, I still run Office 2007 (3 licenses) and it is perfectly OK but will W10 accept it???

Michael, Office 2007 + Pro work fine for me on Windows 10, no slower than with Windows 7.

You can trial in a Dual Boot a Clean Install Windows 10 Technical Preview and continue to track the various builds indefinitely. My bet is at some point this will be converted to a free license without having to give up Windows 7 at all. To maximize this possibility I'd use a MS account for sign in and offer Insider feedback. This can be done causally in spare time to get a first-hand impression of the OS.

This was my intention in October but I never really went back to Windows 7 because the bugs did not ruin the plain fact it is a somewhat better OS for my desktop needs. I also took a liking to several apps whose tiles update News, Weather, Mail, People, and Skype at a glance on my Start menu, something even Apple can't do.

I understand that a new OS from Microsoft is indeed an exciting event. I had been looking forward to it for many months. But at this point, I must reiterate what many have said here and elsewhere: It behooves the wise to watch and wait. For myself, I do not even own a single hand-held device. That's right, I don't even have a cell phone. I use my desktop, a 6 year-old Gateway, just for everyday internet stuff, forums, news and such. I own a year-old computer as well, but that is exclusively for music creation, and is almost never online. I could conceivably keep it for the rest of my life on W7 Pro, along with Sonar, my DAW, which, interestingly, has also recently rechristened itself as Sonar X, and gone to a monthly subscription model. But my version works fine, and along with W7, I could use it for the rest of my life without updating (I'm old enough that this makes sense). I really like the beauty of both Vista and Seven, even finding it inspirational. So, at least for now, I have decided against W10. That could change, if fellow composers report that it is far superior in handling audio, but I think that unlikely. I therefore look forward to many more years of joyful interaction with W7. Look before you leap!

Yea office 2007 small business has no issues with 10tp that I noticed
Also no issues with 8 or 8.1
I've been using 64 bit 10tp in most all iso's since testing started,
I've clean installed every iso
Worst I've noticed is the windows 10 updating seems a heck of a lot faster just clean installing than living through the slow update downloading :/

Weird

After using my W10 b10240 VM for a week, the mouse and RAM usage issues seem to have fixed themselves.

The last few times I've started my VM:

  • The mouse has worked correctly
  • RAM usage has dropped by ~300 MB

I have 6 desktops in my house.

Dear Redmond,

6 months ago they were:
2 x W7 pro 64
1 x W8 pro 32 (HTPC)
1 x W8 pro 64 (Server)
2 x XP 32 Home

At present, I have:
2 x W7 pro 64
1 x W8 pro 32 (HTPC)
1 x W8 pro 64 (Server)
2 x W10 pro 64

Methinks that could well be the final edition although the 2 W8 may become W10 eventually. I, personally, would never turn a W7 desktop into a touch OS. I have an android phone and will not be getting a windows phone.

I would totally do a clean install. I really can't do anything else, because Microsoft security essentials is all I have and it doesn't do it's job (I only have it because my Norton 360 expired a while back), so I can't get rid of any of the viruses. not to mention, in the programs and features list, they always just come back once I uninstall them. I could make a list of the viruses I have if you want me to. They are right under this window, in Control Panel.

Oh and just to kill two birds with one stone, I am getting this Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error. Is this why I don't have the Reserve Windows 10 app? I have run Windows Update 11 times in the past 3 days.

This is what's worked for Windows 7 in millions of installs we've helped with here, and no one has ever come back to say they were infected again:

1) Microsoft Security Essentials, with Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware or AdwCleaner scanners on demand

2) If you get infected reinstall Malwarebytes, enabling trial version with Real Time Protection. Run a full scan and then any further invaders will be blocked.

3) If this does not interfere or throttle performance at all, buy it after the trial expires to run alongside MSE.

4) No one who did this has ever reported getting infected again.

You will get a slightly more aggressive free AV to begin with using Panda Cloud Free. There is no noticeable performance impact which is always a prime consideration to us here.

In WIndows 10 MSE is renamed Defender and built into the OS. It is good enough I've not had to install MBAM or SAS yet.

:focus:

Yep I doubt that would change in win-10 either windows defender is mse
And still needs mbam premium for additional security.

Otherwise get something else because windows defender is not enough.

As it turns out I just don't have Windows Update KB3035583 OR KB2952664. I want to get them, but when I click on the update, it says it failed and there's no button to get it again. I think it's on the official link, but the viruses I have prevent me from doing so, screaming "Important security message. These popups mean you have an adware spyware virus on your computer. Please go to the link below or call us at (I dunno)." In a loop. Won't let me do anything else. So I don't know if it IS on the official link.

I also have a webcam in, camera facing away. I only use it so Cortana works. It's the Logitech Webcam Pro 9000.
Did you "Get Malwarebytes Anti-Malware free and scan with rootkit detection enabled (settings - detection)."?
