Solved IE 11 won't save favorites

I recently got a complete computer rebuild after my modem died, and I'm happy with everything, same Windows 7, except IE 11 won't save favorites anymore. The computer shop guy working on my computer uninstalled and reinstalled IE 11 but that didn't fix the problem. The shop owner is having same problem.

After I took it home I did some research and found a lot of people having the same problem, and found a solution to uninstall IE 1 which I did. Then the same computer shop guy explained how to 'hide' IE 11 and that worked. However, same problem with IE 10!

So I'm hoping that someone can maybe shed some light on this problem. I do have a ginormous favorites file but now I have a huge hard drive so have plenty of room. Any help and hopefully fix this problem would be welcome.

Let's see if it's in the default location:
Using Windows Explorer, navigate to: C:\Users\<your user name>\Favorites

Let's see if you have access:
Right click on the Favorites folder and select Properties.

Let's see if there's anything currently stored there:
Post an image of the General Tab window.

Getting a 'fix' from Kaspersky

Today I called the computer guy and he recommended that I call Kaspersky which I did.

They are aware of the bug and are working to fix it. Meanwhile they are emailing me a set of detailed instructions. I'll respond to this again (if it works) and that also means I may have to reinstall IE 11 but that's not a problem (I don't think).

Thanks again for the support! Google Chrome is not a bad browser but I've been using IE for a very long time and I'm more familiar with that and Chrome isn't as user friendly from what I've seen so far. But I'm from the long pony tail generation hahaha :D I'm not a geek - I'm a wannabe.

Tree sap in January

This may take a few days to get this done. I called to find out when their response could be expected and was told that they will be taking at least a day to look over my information to figure out a 'fix', and then they would contact me. So don't wait up ok?

This afternoon I have received 2 emails from Kaspersky stating that they are 'waiting customer reply'. I have replied to them once, and then again just before this email. I guess I'll have to call them to find out the latest glitch flavor.

I know that 'many others' are looking at this problem because if they 'are working on a fix' then numerous other people have already contacted them but the 'fix' isn't in the form of a patch yet.

So patience will be required here. Hopefully it won't take too long - I'm going nuts trying to deal with email in webmail instead of Outlook not to mention another browser and both leave a lot to be desired as far as I am concerned (i.e. no way to track receipt or read of emails).

this is a Workaround but not a fix

After numerous phone calls with Kaspersky I finally connected with a man who told me to do a couple things - one is to reset my IE and make sure you check the box 'delete all personal settings' then restart computer. After that, he told me to use control-D which didn't work numerous times.

But the next one did work: He told me to open favorites, then click on green arrow which will move it to left side and then click on drop-down arrow and instead of picking 'add to favorites' click on 'add to favorites bar' which did work. Then I was successful in moving that webpage favorite about free patterns provided for using fabric scraps to my craft folder.

Success! But my computer guy was right - this is a workaround not a permanent fix. That is another issue maybe Microsoft or IE team don't want to deal with otherwise it wouldn't keep coming back up. Calling MS would take a lot of money I don't want to spend either.

I found a very large number of hits on this problem which goes back to 2011 or earlier and doesn't ever seem to get solved.

But I'm ok for now. Hope this helps someone out.

I do not understand what you think MS or IE team needs to fix. Can you please elaborate?

In post #5 of your thread, I linked to another thread about Kaspersky and IE11. You might want to read thru that entire thread. That thread mentions some other issues that Kaspersky seems to be causing.

Problems with this scenario for me

Some of this email wouldn't work - I don't need a system restore with a brand new computer build which I had just got home. Also I couldn't find my email with the key code any more so when I got my computer back I had to call Kaspersky to get this problem worked out and a new key code.

During my research about this I found a huge number of hits with variations on the things not working added to the picture - hundreds and more dating back years. This tells me this is one of those hidden problems that people say 'not my problem - theirs'. That's why I'm wondering if I should have been looking somewhere else for an answer. Maybe there is a patch for this already somewhere due to the number of people over the years having the same issue?

Thank you for that link - it was encouraging that people can get this fixed.
