0xc0000005 randomly for Office 365 apps

I have genuine Office 365 on my pc, it always worked correctly until a few days ago it started having problems with launching apps.

It happens only with Office apps. It happens both if I launch the app from the drawer or if I try to open a file.

1st window:
EXCEL.EXE - Application Error
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005). Click OK to close the application.

Then, if I originally tried to open a file, a 2nd window appears:
There was a problem sending the command to the program.

I don't recall doing anything special that could have raised the problem.

Ones in a while the program actually starts: it happens randomly, could be the first time I hit open or the 20th (after I closed the error for other 19 times).
After I managed to get the program to open, I can open as many files relative to that program (es: word) as I want to with no errors. As soon as I close the app, it starts all over again.

I tried chkdisk, safe mode, sfc/scannow (finds errors but is not able to fix some of them), /RestoreHealth (error: 87. the restorehealth option is not recognized in this context), repairing Office.. none worked.

Those were the solutions suggested for cases similar to mine, but I found no case identical to mine.

What else can I try?

Hi Fra881, welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Have a look through this MS website & see if the solutions there help you. It seems that Hardware Graphics Acceleration &/or Direct 3D could be a cause. Anyway read right through the suggested solutions & see if any work.

Hello Ranger4, I looked through the ms community but I didn't find anything (no people with identical problem nor solution to similar problems that worked for mine), so my only option was to post here.

The problem in the link is different, I tried anyway disabling graphic hardware acceleration and opening office apps in safe mode (holding ctrl) but nothing worked.

You could try uninstalling Office 365 & reinstalling it. Read this MS website & follow the directions. There is a link on how to do it manually down the bottom of the page as well.

It would be wise to back up all your Office data files beforehand.

https://support.office.com/en-ie/ar...77a-8fcc-2fdf5dbf61d8?ui=en-US&rs=en-IE&ad=IE

Do you have any other versions of Office installed on this computer. Having more than one version installed can sometimes cause problems.

I am having the exact same problem with the (0xc000005) error but was able to open Word a couple of times about a week ago when it started but now it is not opening at all just when I need it most. I have tried many solutions like using autoruns on this site:
www.usmanalitoo.com/how-to-fix-application-error-0xc0000142-and-0xc0000005-all-windows/

and a solution posted on this forum (by SteveO1964):
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...y/bbb9c037-77b3-4fae-93b9-ded70f7f9a17?page=1

but cannot get it to work. I also tried repairing microsoft office then after that didn't work, I manually uninstalled it and reinstalled it from a new setup file but still no luck

Thanks, I tried everything on his post but nothing there was able to fix it.

The actual error message that comes up is called "WINWORD.EXE - Application Error" and says "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005). Click OK to close the application.

I have been using another laptop for the time being because I use the office products a lot. I just cannot believe how the problem is still not known considering it's not just one person having the same problem.
Hope someone can actually help cause I really don't want to re-install Windows again.

What I was wondering is if Fra881is also using Avast.

If so their could be something in common causing problems. Avast has been recently causing strange problem for a few members.

Just a thought on my part.

I am indeed using Avast..

didn't change a thing, both avast and office 365 have been on my pc for ages and I never had a problem, some faulty update though.. anyway I tried deactivating all the active protections but no luck, I should try to uninstall avast perhaps

Worth a try. I don't know if it's the problem but it cost nothing to do.
Uninstall Avast and install MSE for a test.

Use the Avast removal tool found online.

Yeah no worries, I've had AVAST on my computer for ages and office 365 since the start of this year
Thanks for that, let us know how it goes Fra881

I just tried opening an Excel document an a second error came up with the old error message which I thought may be relevant
It is called the directory from where the file is located so like "C:\Users...etc"
Then the message says "There was a problem sending the command to the program."
