How to remove Windows 10 upgrade updates in Windows 7 and 8

MS wants to see the W8 series killed off even more than they want to kill W7.

At least W7 is successful and popular, whereas the W8 series is a total failure.
The W8 series market performance is worse than Vista's was.
I'm surprised that they haven't collect up all of the installer discs and buried them in the desert (like the legendary ET game).

What I was alluding to is that the only way to stop this garbage is to disable WU, which means you may as well be using XP (i.e. no new updates will be available).

If we are to believe the claims of MS (and others) this means that your PC is likely to trigger a "thermonuclear holocaust" within seconds of connecting it to the Internet.

You reminded me of the movie called wargames. It also had a sequel as well. No device is 100% secure. Any electronic device is vulnerable.

I guess it depends on the system really. I'm fortunate that I've never really had an issue with the windows updates.
I have 6 hidden updates. 2 are the windows install/nagware updates and 4 are the new telemetry updates (which won't get anywhere near my system).
But I've installed all the rest, including all optional updates and I've never had any issues.

The new security update which breaks the old safedisc games doesn't affect me as I don't own any discs with DRM on. Most of my games are on Steam/GOG.
Safedisc was identified as a security risk back in 2007, I'm surprised it's taken them this long to patch it.
But, I can see how it would annoy people when their games would suddenly stop working.
Especially when the average user isn't going to go checking out the Microsoft website to see what's causing it.

Same goes for the Windows 10 nagware... Annoying as hell!
They could at least add an option to completely dismiss the update from the system tray icon. It wouldn't seem like such a forced update then.
And auto-downloading the windows 10 installer to people's pc's even when they don't want it is the ultimate annoyance! Bad decision there from MS!!

However all I can say is that removing KB3083324 along with all updates listed below and force installing KB3075851 after resetting Windows Update Components and running Advanced Disk Cleanup (including Windows Updates Cleanup) solved the high RAM usage issue (by svchost.exe) that many users are reporting when running a windows update check.

There is an update available to the activation and validation components in Windows Activation Technologies for Windows 7.




KB971033 should be installed.

KB971033 was on my list because it was listed as a privacy issue on another forum. However I realized that this one does need to be installed. As stated - KB971033 was reinstalled following removal. I was just describing the updates that I ensured were removed along with KB3083324 at the time of removal.

Briefly - KB3083324 was removed along with any others that were in the list. KB3075851 was then force installed. KB971033 was then installed.

KB971033 I haven't had an issues with this not being installed. When you do a clean install on my system windows update will not install KB971033. There is a fix by removing one of the updates, it will allow you to install KB971033. Once installed, that update either comes back or it doesn't depending on what you have installed. It is in one of my old post on how I did it. Noel old post actually helped my find the update that prevented KB971033 from installing.

Those are the monthly "Windows update client" updates.
My guess is there will be a new one of these every month as MS receives telemetry on the failed 10 updates (when done through Windows update). Seems like an ongoing improvement with these.

My understanding of KB971033.

It is what Microsoft uses to check every so often if Windows 7 is properly activated. It's been around for ever. If a system is properly activated you won't even know KB971033 is on your system.

Just for the record, I had KB971033 hidden, not anymore it installed itself without my input. My Windows 7 update setting are to let me choose which updates to install.
No point of uninstall and hide it again I guess, as it will reinstall itself unsolicited at some stage.

You need to select "let me choose to download and install"
