MSE thrashing disks after boot.

Ive noticed that MSE seems to do a hidden scan after you boot up and get to the desktop. Doesnt always do it but sometimes. Is there a way to prevent it from doing this?

There is no option in the MSE interface and I cant see any option in task scheduler.

Yep, it does and you cant even kill the process. Its a little bit annoying

Im actually considering installing avast 5 come 22nd now instead of mse because its still thrashing.

......also MSE removes any modified 'HOST' file you might have and replaces it with the
generic one. Does not ask permission either......

I dont (at least manually) use the hosts file.

The only thing I have against avast is the regular 'rearming' of your registration.

Maybe I just don't care but most of what was said on this thread, that MSE does, doesn't bother me.

If it wants to scan, I'll let it. Long as it doesn't effect me much.

If it does its job correctly I keep it, and I have. Used it since the beta.

Im with you on MSE except the scaning thing. Most AV's let you schedule and have a smart start up scan. I thinkk MSE is really good at what it does im just nit picking

Yeah, but remember its 'basic security' if your looking for advanced options perhaps MSE isn't for you? No one can make a product thats for everyone. :|

Click on settings and see if you can set MSE's scan to coincide with the way you want it

already set that but it does a startup time scan as well and its pretty thorough.

That's a bit disappointing. I understand the concept of this being a "basic" security solution, but would it be that complicated to make the hosts file replacement an option (defaulted on, for that matter) for those who do use custom hosts files?

Used MSE since it came out, and never had it scan on boot, or it does it so quickly it still boots under 30 seconds.

Oh dear, apologies guys, haven't had that either, i dont think :S, comp is useable as soon as my Fraps has loaded, HDD is in idle after that.

This is really the only thing that's preventing me from installing MSE.

Is it really that annoying?

Did you try disabling MSE from ms-config, which sort of defeats the purpose of it being there, but you could always run it later on?
