How to remove Windows 10 upgrade updates in Windows 7 and 8

I found this thread really useful to check and remove most of the patches related to windows 10 upgrade/nagware

That list seems a little OTT if you ask me. They're referencing updates which have nothing to do with Windows 10.
One example is the update which fixes a memory leak in DWM. This clearly has nothing to do with Windows 10.
Some articles seem a little extreme to me. The next thing we'll get is articles telling people not to install Security Updates, which is a bad idea.

Well it is helpful for some just like it was for me and the title does say "Windows 10 Upgrade / Disable Telemetry" so its not being forced just letting ppl know if one thinks its not helpful then they do not need to use it.

I use the all in one batch file to uninstall from: https://gist.github.com/xvitaly/eafa75ed2cb79b3bd4e9 instead of having to uninstall one at a time.

Might be overkill but you can easily edit the batch. Also instead of disable the update OS in group policy, I just disable treat recommend updates as important updates in windows update settings.

I have those WU client updates all installed Groze. Windows update client updates that deal with downloading and installing 10 through Windows update. The gpedit or reg workarounds will block the download anyway. The files listed in the update are files that already exist on your pc except for 3 new ones which deal with the download and put the windows 10 offer screen in WU.
I just installed them as I got sick of my list expanding every month.
Anyway, haven't had anything 10 downloaded or offered.

The updates getting on my nerves are KB2952664 and KB3035583. I now have two of each in my hidden updates. Usually when a new one gets published it just replaces the old one. Hasn't happened this time.
Wonder how many more of these we'll get?

You have to or at least I do have to wonder why an optional/ recommended update might concern someone so much ?

All I'm interested in are Important updates
I could care a less how long the optional updates list is or gets
If I have a specific issue I might look at them and see if any address that issue.

I've just installed all the optional updates. Except for the republished KB2952664 which I'm guessing will eventually switch to a recommended again. Oh and Silverlight updates. I don't even have that installed on my pc anymore but they still appear in the list. Once Office 2007 reaches EOL I'll be able to remove the option to show all those.
Maybe I've just been lucky but no update has ever caused me any issues on my pc. Except the above mentioned telemetry update which my hard drive didn't particularly like.
I know others haven't been as lucky with the updates though.

Snort! Mistake my Aunt Fanny! I wouldn't be surprised if MSpy did it on purpose to see if enough people would roll over and take it. And, even though they have backed that out, I'm sure there are a few thousand people who will not revert back from the Win 10 that was shoved down their throats, adding even more to Win 10's adoption tally.

Spot on Lady F! I find it very hard to believe that was an "accident". They're only saying that because there has been a backlash about it. The way they're pushing 10 lately it hardly seems likely. They're determined to force this thing on as many pc's as they can. Pity they won't stop the forced downloads altogether, but that's unlikely.

The optional update disappeared out my list today. Expecting a recommended to boomerang it's way back anytime soon.

Just updated my Gateway PC and wife's Dell Laptop. They continue to try and sneak KB3035583 on to the Dell, but seem to have given up on me (maybe they're read some of these posts). But they did try to sneak KB2952664 by me. I'm thinking of not updating my music PC at all at this point, just keeping it off-line. It works nice, why mess it up? I could use it like that until 2020, and then beyond. But I'm banking on being able to use Linux by then for music. I use it for almost everything else now as it is. I'm just logging on to Windows 7 to update it! Kind of silly... But that's how I'm dealing with it. I guess I'm hoping that eventually, MS will pull back, after sufficient outcry. Or lawsuits.
