geforce 8500 GT dual display

Hi there,
im trying to connect my pc (with windows 7 64) to the tv..
i have geforce 8500 GT, and the TV is samsung 32"
in the geforce 8500 gt there are 2 output, VGA and DVI.
until now, the pc mnitor was connected to the dvi output, now i moved it to be connected to the VGA outpu so i can connect the TV via the DVI.
the TV has HDMI input, so i bought a HDMI cable (which i tested and works fine) and a DVI to HDMI converter.
i'm connecing the pc to the tv with the converter and the hdmi cable, but nvidia doenst recognize the second display!
i tried everything.. nothing happens..
the TV keep saying that there is no sognal and that i have to check the setting of the source device..
and in the nvidia control panel, in the "set up multiple displays" setting, only the monitor (which is connected via VGA cable) is recognized..
i tried of course to disconnect the monitor and to connect only the tv, but it doesnt work! still nothing..
it can be of course that the converter is not good.. but its new.. so i doubt this..

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Not sure about the cable but have you tested the vga port on the card with your monitor ?

The only 2 things one needs to do is make sure the tv in on that hdmi port in it's settings
On the computer hit Winkey+P and switch to extend or duplicate.

Hard to believe your computer does not have a hdmi port on it :/

What's even harder to believe is that video card has an S-Video output on it.

That thing is old!

On a more helpful note, maybe that DVI port is the wrong kind? Memory fails me, but what if it is a DVI-I when it needs to be a DVI-D, or vice versa. I can't remember which one can drive HDMI, but I'll look it up...

EDIT:

I can't tell from the Nvidia specs, but I believe that the card is a single link DVI-I connector. The OP might need a dual link output to "see" the TV. That's what I was getting at above. The cable looks right in that it is dual link, but the card may not be.

some answers..
the vga port is working, the monitor is connected to it..
also the dvi-port is working, as the monitor was connected to it until now.. (as i said, i disconnected the monitor from the dvi, and connected it to the VGA' in order to use the DVI with the TV.

of course the TV is set to HDMI.. and i tried thw winkey + D.. but it didnt work.

yes, the pc is old, but it should work..

the nvidia card has DVI-I.. and that the cable im tring to connect.. (BTW, both of them, DVI-I and DVI-D can be connected to HDMI)

Actually it's winkey+P not D

Do you have a hdmi port on the mother board ?
Does it have onboard graphic's as well you only show the card and not the entire back of the computers connections

no i dont have hdmi port.. its an old pc..

i really think that the DVI-HDMI converter is probably not working well..
i guess i need to order a new one..

Yep,
If you post a budget we can make sugestions for a better gpu
GeForce GTX970's are good and darn cheap
If you see one here search for the product on Newegg....

Even most newer GT series gpu's have hdmi ports
GT640 for example is dirt cheap and has all the ports you need,

You don`t need any kind of converter, just run a dvi to hdmi cable to the hdtv, all I ever use is a Monster dvi to hdmi cable whenever I want to hook up my Sony 40"

Stupid question, but is the tv set to the correct hdmi input, if you only have 1 then I`m sure it is, always check the input source again.
