Can't download from Microsoft.

Hello.

This is kinda strange issue and i dunno what really caused it :sarc:

Since 2-3 days ago i could download updates and stuff without any problems but not it fails to connect with microsoft servers.
Umm i can browse microsoft.com(system32/drivers/etc/host file seems ok) and go to download pages of updates etc but then IDM adds the link to it's list but fails to download it.

Windows Update searches for 20-30 minutes and then says error connecting.
I can show some screens if needed.

You guys have any idea what is wrong and how to fix this ? :shock:

What kind of virus software and firewall software are you using??

One thing to try to check DNS operation is to try to ping www.microsoft.com
you will probably get a time-out but should at least see the Microsoft IP address (I get 65.55.12.249 yours may vary).

If this fails to provide an ip then you have a DNS problem or, of course a connectivity problem

When you have the IP you can also try pinging this to confirm that you have connectivity.

You can also enter the IP into the browser to see if you can get a connection that way.

Please try the above and post the results

Avira Premium Security.
Firewall level set to medium.
It's not an antivirus solution problem,it was working fine since 2 months or something.

I get 207.46.19.254 and i opened the ip in a browser and sends me here http://207.46.19.254/en/us/default.aspx?pf=true which is the microsoft site.

But i can't download anything from microsoft
I can't see what the problem can be,and no i haven't applied any patch to windows.

And yes the page opens and then it automatically opens Windows Update.

Yardo, I think that its time to think about backing up your data and reinstalling.. Your inability to download from windows update is a serious roadblock to your system integrity and security... Let us know what you want to do..

Yeah i know i was thinking that as well but i got too many installed stuff that reformatting and installing all over again is such a pain.

Will install official Win7 this weekend i guess.

Lol ... I feel your pain, but thats the way it is with bleeding edge software ... Ive lost count of the times Ive had to reinstall.. Once you get it set up though, you should image your drive/partition just in case...

is that the only site you cannot download from?? when downloading from Windows update web page have you tried "alt" + click on the download link so IDM does not download the file?

Tried in google chrome and it's same.

Never mind i am gonna reinstall windows,i was just curious to know what caused this issue.

It could also be viral. DO you have a current working anti virus app? If you are going to re-install you should do a clean install just in case

In addition to What ken has said above with the Viral possibilities, it would be interesting to see when response you get from attempting to go to a few of the major Anti-Virus software developers.

It is a known tactic of some malware to prevent surfing to these sites

Yes i know that and i can browse all antivirus sites,no exception.
Avira never let me down,i haven't been infected in years.

Just another thought ... if Windows Defender is running, disable it in 'Services', reboot and try again.

Guys i am on a formatted pc,i just formatted installing Win7 Ultimate N and i still have same issues :|

I fail to connect at microsoft servers

Anywhere where i can ask for help.

Edit : Last time i didn't get this though ^o)

P.S My windows is 30 day trial.
