Recently I'm facing a problem where pages take forever to load and eventually become unresponsive. I tried multiple browsers- have the same problem. Can someone give me a hand?

And does it happen on all URLs you try? Also, have you cleared the cache and temporary internet files from previous browsing sessions? Have you run any malware scans? What versions of the browsers are you having trouble with?

Since it is happening to all browsers it might be system related.

  • Your router may be caching the DNS as well, restart it or read the manual; I usually pull the routers adapter cord and walk away for a few minutes.

That didn't change anything, although before I tried it I realised one of the pages seems to be loading normally again.

UPDATE: Pages load perfectly fine when using a proxy server.

  • You flushed the DNS and reset your router?

  • Is your machine and browsers both slow, or just your browsers?

Well my machine is not being slow and it only happens with a couple pages in my web browsers and I did flush the DNS and reset router. Also, as I said, if I'm using a proxy the pages load with no problem. Just to let you know, if I leave the pages for about 20 mins they eventually load. (When not using proxy)

Sorry to jump into this thread but the use of a proxy provides a clue. The proxy should be using a different DNS lookup server.

Example:

DNS Lookup (of a domain that does not exist) by browser using the DNS lookup server configured for the network adapter.

Norton ConnectSafe DNS Lookup.jpg

DNS Lookup (of a domain that does not exist) by browser using the DNS lookup server that is used by a proxy.

Proxy DNS Lookup.jpg

DNS Lookup Server as it is currently configured:

DNS Server.jpg

Note: Proxy over-rides settings show in the above screenshot and uses it's own DNS lookup server.

Suggestion.

Try changing default DNS lookup server. Note the current settings then assign one of the following:

Google Public DNS
8.8.8.8
and
8.8.4.4

Comodo Secure DNS
8.26.56.26
and
8.20.247.20

or find a DNS Lookup Server of your own choice.

Apply settings and swith off computer and router.

Switch on router and boot your computer.

Any difference?

No need to feel sorry Callender, jump away; Jake,

I see you have avast as your antivirus and remembering from past threads; If the different DNS settings Callender suggest still don't help try turning off avast's web-shield and or scanner, I'm not sure of the terminology as I don't use avast, and see what you get.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Everything works perfectly fine now! (Although I will still monitor it to make sure.)

UPDATE: NOOOOOO!!!! It started doing it again. :(

UPDATE 2: Ok, this is weird it did it again and then when I changed the IPV4 settings back to default and then changed it back once more it's working perfectly fine now.
