Hi all,

Recently I can't perform any admin functions yet I am listed as the Admin. Every time I try to update my laptop I get a some setting are managed by your systems admin.

Can anyone direct me on how to correct this issue. Any help would be appreciated!

Also I am not seeing my "users" field under CMM.

Thank you in advance!

What is CMM?

Try enabling the hidden Administrator account then login as Administrator and see if you can do updates.

Open a Elevated Command Prompt. Click Start, All Programs, Accessories. Right click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator.

Enter net user administrator /active:yes and press Enter
Type exit and press Enter to close the Command Prompt window.

Note: /active:no will disable it again.

If you can't do this from a booted Windows 7 then you can do it from a Command Prompt window of a booted Windows 7 installation DVD, see here:
How to Change the User Account Password if Unable to Login to Windows

It would be a good idea to run sfc /scannow from a Elevated Command Prompt too, see if that finds and fixes any problems.

Thanks for the reply.

I have tried all the listed steps except the last one. I will try tonight. Also as a FYI, when clicking on the command prompt, I no longer have the option to Run as Administrator.

Did net user administrator /active:yes work? Were you able to then login to the Administrator account?

Would be a good idea to run a full scan with your anti-virus program then install Malwarebytes Anti-malware Free, boot to Safe mode with networking then run a scan with it.

When doing net user administrator /active:yes the unseen admin account did show. However, no admin functions can be performed just as with my account.

I currently use Norton and run a full scan once a week. I will run the malware you suggested, although will not be able to until tomorrow.

Thank you again for your assistance!

Did you try booting to Safe Mode and logging in as Administrator?

sfc /scannow came back clean. I am running malwarebytes now. So far one threat came back which is as follows:

  • PUP.Optional.ConvertAd

I can long into admin account in safe mode. however just as in regular boot up I can not perform any admin functions.

then states details are included in the CBS.log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

I found it. SURT stated the update was not applicable to my computer.

Also as a fyi, the auto update section is greyed out do I can't change it. That is why I started research the admin problem.
