Microsoft Really Getting Sneaky On Windows 10

It seems to me that if a person would use Macrium to make images, he would be covered if his PC were ever changed to Windows 10. It seems rather impossible to know what each MS Update is going to do. Even if you have a list of Bad Updates, it would be quite a job to check each one to see if it were on your PC. Am I going about this in a way to make things harder than they are as far as checking the Updates?

While do check out the updates before downloading and installing any, I also preface that with an image using MR. I do that for updates for any program and before making any other major changes.

One of the points I was trying to get to, is most users don't do anything but auto update. They don't know what Windows Updates or other things has been doing to their computers.
Microsoft depends on the casual user.
I know it's hard to believe but most computer users don't read the threads on this forum to keep informed. They just blindly wonder through the internet and let what ever do what ever to their computers.
This type of computer user is exactly what W-10 was designed for.
I call this type of user the Poke and Hope user.

I try to remember to always follow the money.
Windows 7 no longer makes Microsoft money as intended.
Microsoft needs new products to sell, rent or lease.
They need to get us off of Windows 7 and the older Office and on to their new products; whether we want to or not. That is the reason for the sneaky Windows 7 Updates.

Well, I am probably seeing this whole update issue completely wrong.

There are many parts of it I don't understand.
First, I find it very strange and unbelievable, that we all get the same updates, that can not be.

All our PC's are different because of their history, their age, their system ( home, pro etc) and many more.

Secondly, some of us have done a clean install or a factory install, all of us have sometimes had to do a system restore to an earlier date. Some of us have cleaned up their update history.

So if the updates we have had over the years as sort of building stones correcting our systems in view of new developments in technic, spy and malware ( I think ), then they must be all over the place and sometimes deleted. When the base has changed, the new proposed updates must be adapted to that new situation of the PC.

So, if I understand this right, then only these "upgrade" updates to windows 10 are proposed to all of us at the same date and it should then be quite easy to make a list of only them.
For sure, we can not update anything anymore straight away. Even no Security updates. We have to wait at least a week to find out the real consistency of each update proposed to us.

And then, when given the green light update.

Or given the red light, leave them where they are, because hiding is not a solution I have found out twice.
They disappear and make their way back into new updates sooner or later.

If I get this " windows updating "completly wrong than I can assure you, that I am not the only one that is utterly confused.
And then I have not even gone into the fact that changing your settings throws the whole affair again.

thelma if I understand you correctly, you are somewhat new to computers and are confused about all these strange updates by Microsoft to Windows 7.

You have just joined a large club. (The confused) Many of us have been around a while and the new methods and policies by Microsoft with Windows 7 Updates is confusing and troublesome.

The only thing that looks obvious to me is Microsoft wants a billion or so computer to move from Windows 7 to W-10 and they are going to continue to poke and prod Windows 7 systems to try and make that happen.
W-10 will happen on my computer when I choose it to happen. Microsoft can't seem to get that in their thick heads.

M$ would have had a far better chance of achieving their goals with Win X if 2 two things were not attempted.
1. one billion machines through Update, how many people have gone back to their old OS because of instability, an ISO release would have helped there.
2. Telemetry and spyware inclusion in Win X
(3. no WMC) that's another killer for me.

It would have been nice if MS put something in W-10 that interested me enough to give up an extremely stable win7 install. I am quite content and see no reason to go through the learning curve along with possible instability, driver search, large updates and compatibility problems. All the while basically beta testing 10. I won't even go in to the rest of the issues with W-10 as it has all been said.


Like Layback Bear, If and when "I" want to go to W-10 I will. Until then MS can quit trying to force it on me. I have had Windows Updates off for as long as I can remember and do them manually at a time when it's convent for me. The harder MS pushes the harder I will resist.

Just as a point as to the quality of Win 10, how many people on here have tried Win 10 and have wanted to come back to Win 7? A very large number. That should tell us all something about Win 10.

Maybe they said so, but in practice there is no way to ensure that every imaginable software runs in a newer OS. I know Windows 10 is just a tiny update over Windows 8 and that is in turn just a minor update over Windows 7, so most software is expected to run flawlessly, but others might fail.
Consider how many programs are poorly developed, relyng on OS bugs that, being fixed, break them. Or just software that doesn't conforms to the specification MS publishes. Or expects one specific OS version and fails to adapt to any other one. Or MS errors and regression bugs in Windows itself.

Microsoft has been always careful with backwards compatibility, to the point that Windows keeps the very same API intact since Windows 1 up to Windows 10. But from time to time breaking changes can and do ocurr, plus bad development practices on third party software plus expectable bugs here and there make that impossible to assure.

It makes an excellent marketing line to say so (nobody would put in an advertisement that "an upgrade might break some of your software"), but it's not true in practice. We must still test all current software to ensure it works as intended, or be ready to update or replace the few that do not.

From what I've read, no gadgets will work in Win 10.

I am not talking about what Microsoft provides. I am talking what a 3rd party provides. I am using 17.0 gadget by Helmut Buhler. I found some neat tools after updating. I think I will install this on windows 7 as well. I use that more because I am still leery of using windows 10. Some of those gadgets he provides may not work. I couldn't figure out how to get the youtube gadget to work on windows 10. I will try it on windows 7 and see if I have the same problem. You will notice the arrow, When I hit print screen the network came alive. I even use the maximum privacy tweaks for windows 10 even the one that unofficially turns off telemetry. I will compare that with windows 7. I do have location partially turned on for a couple of apps. The most used is inaccurate.

So M$ writes a new OS with this and that missing i.e. win 8 no start menu etc.
Win 10 old stuff gone not wanted stuff added, and 3rd party gurus refine what they can't or won't do for the public they try to sell (force) to.
No wonder they have to give it away.
Who can I think of that was the CEO of a company that was sacked for very little reason?

If you go on the Windows 10 forum there are people there that think Windows 10 is the greatest thing
since sliced bread and they claim they are experienced.
It's like in politics, most people either don't care to do any investigation or accept the propaganda
in the press.
I would guess the new guy in Microsoft is no better than the last one.
Microsoft needs some SERIOUS competition. Not Linux with (what's your distro today crap).
Seems like a good job for someone like Google.
They'll have to sabotage Windows 7 and I wouldn't put it past them, to get me to change.
