Yesterday, I completed the Star Wars marathon by watching The Return of the Jedi, which has one of the best plot twists that I've ever seen, when we first met Anakin Skywalker it was said that he was the chosen one, that he would bring peace to the galaxy but nay he embraced the dark side and became Darth Vader, but now in the last part of the original Star Wars trilogy, it was Darth Vader who killed the Emperor not Luke Skywalker, so he did bring peace to the galaxy.

And tonight I'll watch the new Star Wars.

May the force be with you Sevenforums!

I cannot remember.

Movies that made a big impression are:

The Jungle book ( when Baloo was dying I shred a tear and was annoyed when he was only pretending )
Winged Migration. A Doc on winter birds migration sounds boring but is so well made, try it,
Thor the bear, or simply called The Bear I think, after the book of James Oliver Curwood. This book made me into the enthusiastic reader I now am.
The last trapper, about a real live trapper, good story, beautiful scenery and interesting info about survival in the extreme north,
Le Vieux fusil, a french film with Philippe Noiret and Romy Sneider. This film will stay with you for a long time.
Probably translated as The old gun.
Casablanca and Play it again Sam a Woody Allan spinoff brilliantly dated, A MUST.
The fearless Vampire Killers by Polansky, fascinatingly funny.
Saving Private Bryan, and for those how thought that movie was impressive, there is an English series ( 12 parts I think ) called The Band of Brothers, that is sort of same good 2 WW movie, realistic information about what really happened.
A Bridge to far,, I walked over the bridge when they were working there, that was so fascinating, all the cardboard houses and walking dead and wounded, horribly real.
The Good the Bad and the Ugly, that last scene where they have a 3 man standoff !!!! And the music.
Braveheart was splendid too.
These really stay in my memory

The last movie that I watched was Dr. Zhivago in a movie theater on the Champs Elysee in 1964. Haven't been to the movies since then. And since I do not watch TV, I do not get any updates.

Few days ago I d/l'd Quintin Tarantino's Hateful Eight. If you liked Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs or
Kill Bill 1 and 2 you'll probably like this. A lot of conversation mixed with extreme blood and guts.
Typical Quintin. I liked it. How can you go wrong with cast Kurt Russell, Samuel Jackson, Jennifer Jason
Leigh, Bruce Dern, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen. I like all Tarantino's movies. Django Unchained was cool.
On the flip side The Ridiculous 6 with Adam Sandler was........well.......RIDICULOUS.

A lot of them are probably a waste of time but there are still heaps of enjoyable gems. You need to pick them or stumble across them. As I think I commented earlier I watched the "box office smash" Jurassic World and thought it was childish rubbish.

Talking of older movies try "Blade Runner" and preferably the blu ray remastered version - complex themes.
Then we have ones like "Once Upon a Time in the West" - simple but still good.

Saving Private Bryan, and for those how thought that movie was impressive, there is an English series ( 12 parts I think ) called The Band of Brothers, that is sort of same good 2 WW movie, realistic information about what really happened.
On a personal note these were the best war movies ever made:
Apocalypse Now (1979)
Heartbreak Ridge (1986) Eastwood is always a badass. Improvise, Adapt, Overcome.
Full Metal Jacket (1987) (Absolutely realistic and most comprehensive basic training endurance)
Hurt Locker (2008)
We Were Soldiers (2002) You want to know what it was like? That was exactly what it was like.
Ia Drang Valley, known as the "Valley of Death. I was on another mission in and around Nam when that was taking place.
Platoon (1986) (another real one)
Blackhawk Down (2001) (one of many unfortunate mistakes.)
Lone Survivor (2013)(Brilliant)
Saving Private Ryan (1998)(Hitting the beach? Exactly.)
American Sniper (2015)(Only one of thousands of personal struggles encountered in war.)
My favorite? All of these and many not listed like 10 Part series Band of Brothers,

US Army 101st Airborne division
The St. Crispin's Day speech is a famous speech from William Shakespeare's play, Henry V, in Act IV Scene iii...
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile

OK, but it was (too) obviously written with sequels in mind.
The super weapon wasn't properly explained either.

Maybe it was the cinema, but a lot of the scenes didn't seem to be focussed properly.
My friend and I watched the standard (2D) version, maybe it is supposed to be watched in 3D.

Oorah (Marines)

My first boat. The boat I qualified on, (USS Perch APSS-313).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oorah_%28Marines%29

The 1st Amphibious Reconnaissance Company, FMFPAC can be credited with the introduction of "Ooh-rah!" into the Marine Corps in 1953, shortly after the Korean War[citation needed]. Recon Marines served aboard the USS Perch (ASSP-313), a WWII-era diesel submarine retrofitted to carry Navy Underwater Demolition Team and Recon Marines. Whenever the boat was to dive, the 1MC (PA system) would announce "DIVE! DIVE!", followed by the sound of the diving klaxon: "AHUGA!" In 1953 or 1954, while on a conditioning run, former Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps John R. Massaro, while serving as company Gunnery Sergeant of 1st Amphibious Reconnaissance Battalion, simulated the "Dive" horn sound "AHUGA!" as part of the cadence. Legend has it, he took it with him when he went to serve as an instructor at the Drill Instructor school at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego. He there passed it on to the Drill Instructor students and they, in turn, passed it on to their recruits where it eventually and naturally became a part of the Recon cadence, and thereafter infiltrated Recon Marine lexicon.[3] Over time, "AHUGA!" morphed into the shorter, simpler "Ooh Rah!" Today, the official Marine Corps Training Reference Manual on the history of Marine Recon is titled "AHUGA!
