Their is a good chance the the DoD is not going to get the same W-10 that we can buy.

Maybe then some of the problems get the MS attention.

Which problems? Windows 10 is for me, and judging by the most positive feedback on Ten Forums and other sites around the Interwebs for majority of users a stable, well functioning OS.

It would be interesting to see what sort of results the keyloggers manage to collect when they phone home...

Could you please tell what kind of keyloggers are by default installed in Windows 10? Some links to prove their existence would also be nice.

DoD is not going to allow all that calling home B/S.

That really is outrageous how Microsoft collects anonymous data about my computer usage and its functionality to better my Windows Experience, how this data helps Windows to adapt to my needs. How stupid idea is it that Cortana adapts to my search patterns, learns my hobbies, favorite places, helps me track my deliveries, keeps track of my calendar and all this other BS.

Why can't MS make an OS that just installs and then severs all contact with "home"? We users do not want any bugfixes and updates based on the anonymous data collected by MS, we do not need help in remembering our meetings and keeping us updated about the weather, not as long as we have pen & paper and can open a window to check the weather.

Thinking of it, we users do not want an OS that can go to Internet because all those sites are collecting anonymous user data for statistical purposes.

I'd be curious to know how W10 performs:
1) Physically isolated from the internet
2) In a VM with no internet connectivity
3) behind a firewall

I suspect W10 in some form or other is what many people will be using in the future. At this stage I'm not going to pay the money to try it.

I'd be curious to know how W10 performs:

My experience, after quite extensive testing:

1) Physically isolated from the internet
Absolutely fabulously! Running a test machine with network but no Internet connection, everything works well. It even gets updates because of this feature:

2016-02-19_14h34_49.png

2) In a VM with no internet connectivity
Running two test Hyper-V virtual machines to test this, one with an internal private virtual switch¹, the other with a private virtual switch¹. Both working, and updating without an issue.

¹ = As explained in Hyper-V Virtual Switch Manager at our sister site the Eight Forums:

A Virtual Switch can be external, internal or private.
  • External Virtual Switch: will connect a vm to host NIC. If host NIC is connected to Internet through router, the vm is also connected to Internet. If host NIC (LAN) is not connected to router or if the router has no Internet access, the internal network will still work allowing computers (physical and vm) belonging to the same subnet and workgroup or domain to communicate with each other (file and media sharing etc.). When connecting external switch to host WLAN NIC, the vm loses all connectivity when WLAN is disabled or not connected on host.
  • Internal Virtual Switch: When a virtual NIC is connected to Internal VS it can communicate with other computers and vms on the same subnet but has no Internet access.
  • Private Virtual Switch: When a virtual NIC is connected to Private VS it can communicate with other vms on same Hyper-V server but cannot communicate with host PC nor has it Internet access. A Private vs is often needed when installing a legacy Linux or pre-XP Windows vm. After installation you need then to disable Private Switch and use Internal or External to connect to the network.

3) behind a firewall
None whatsoever issues.

The wonderful little lady, Cortana. All knowing Cortana. Keep me updated to all appointments, what I like and don't like. Offers suggestions on what she thinks I like, ect. ect. Their lies the problem for me.
If one wants to believe Microsoft collects anonymous data just to improve my enjoyment of W-10 so be it; I don't.
Once Cortana knows all, their is a good chance Microsoft and the rest of the world will also know all. That being said, if one still want to put their life in the hands of Cortana so be it. I choose not to.

A burglar would love to be able to look at ones calendar to see who is home and not home at any particular time.
The world of salespeople would love to know who likes what so they can direct advertisement. Just ask Cortana is all that is needed because she knows all. Cortana will end up knowing more about you than your spouse knows about you. Once again if one doesn't care if Cortana knows all then use things like Cortana. I choose not to.
Cortana is not a good or bad thing. Cortana is a good thing if that is what one wants. As long as one has a choice I don't have a problem with Cortana.

If one likes and prefers W-10 by all means use W-10 or any other operating systems they care to.

I'm not sure why this forum is used as a selling platform for W-10.
Their is a sister forum for W-10 that one can use to get a better understanding of W-10 and what the users of W-10 think of W-10.

Their is a sister forum for W-10 that one can use to get a better understanding of W-10 and what the users of W-10 think of W-10.

Do you really mean that it is not allowed to discuss Windows 10 here on the Seven Forums?

Ironically, your comment about Windows 10 (topic of this thread) was post number 4, you being one of the first to response by telling your opinion about Windows 10.

Or do you just mean that your opinion is OK to be posted because you are against Windows 10, but any pro Windows 10 opinions should not be posted?

A burglar would love to be able to look at ones calendar to see who is home and not home at any particular time.

Please educate me: The only two ways a burglar would get my calendar details are 1) that he / she hacks into my computer, mobile device or MS account, or 2) that MS gives or sells that information to him / her. As we are speaking about the harmless usage statistics collected by Windows, as does every other operating system, you must mean that MS will forward my personal data to this burglar.

Could you please give more details as it seems that you have more information about this than I do? Can anyone buy this information, is there a website where MS sells the data they have collected?

Keenly waiting your answer,

Kari

Cortana access all your calendar details via telemetry, that's why it's enabled by default and cannot be disabled unless your are a corp or enteprise (Only Enterprise Edition of W10 has an option to turn off telemetry entirely... at some point, because it still collects data from hardware and software configurations). This telemetry data is sent to M$ so Cortana can access that database anytime, even if you are offline, and you get intenet access later.

So, basically, M$ posesses your personal information, if you let Cortana to access it, and the EULA gives them free field of action to do whatever they want with that collected information. Go figure.

Personally, I think Cortana can be such a great adittion, just if they could cut that telemetry online storage thing... I mean, Cortana could do just the same it does right now, but OFFLINE and just having a local telemetry so it becomes smarter about helping you without phoning home... But that means programming a REAL AI so it collects data locally (not sending that to M$, it's unnecessary for a system like that) and then it uses that for learning you and being a smarter assistant.

But M$ doesn't want to create a real AI, nor they care, they just want your personal information so they can sell it to third parties, and then, they can fill up your throat with annoying ads inside the OS, or to sell that to the Government, or trying to control your OS (The main target of all this crap, there is a post about how the last cumulative update now reverts custom file associations to M$'s standards, and the OS even does that if you reset those back to your likings... experiment? or...). That's revenue for M$, that why W10 is free for a year...

Remember TPP was signed, and companies like M$ are trying to tie up users and force them to do what they want them to do, no matter how much they payed for their hardware, M$ wants to control it, not you...

That's why people doesn't like W10, that's the problem with the telemetry they added...

Any member as far as I know can post anything as long as the rules of this forum are adhered to.

Everything on the net has been or will be hacked and that includes things like Cortana. If one trusts Microsoft like I use to then their should not be a problem. If one believes that their personal data is safe in a Microsoft cloud then go for it. If one believes their computer can't be hacked then store all that personal information on their system and let Microsoft have access to it. If Cortana has access to your information Microsoft has access to it and who knows who else has access to it.

If I remember correctly the DoD computer systems have already been hacked. The heads of the C.I.A., F.B.I and the Presidents phone was hacked. So that makes me believe that a Microsoft cloud and someones computers can be hacked.

If a government agency want to wander through a persons computer just to improve your enjoyment and security red flags as big as a barn would be waving. We would be hearing screams all over the world.
If Microsoft does the same thing the whole world is beautiful and we should rejoice.
I really don't understand.
Google are bad guys if they track us but Microsoft are the good guys if they do the same thing. Maybe I'm just to short because it's going over my head.

I will say it again; if one doesn't care if Microsoft wanders through their systems then just enjoy W-10 and happy computing. I'm not posting to tell anybody what they should or should not do with their systems.
I'm not posting tell anybody what them must like or dislike.
I'm posting a opinion and what I do and do not like.

I like Windows 7 but I also understand that the day will come that I will have to select another operating system. Hopefully by then W-10 will be something I want.

Oh I don't know where to start!

I would stop using Windows the very day I would have to start entering the same notes, alarms, calendar details and such manually on each device I use because they are not synced, instead of simply syncing them to cloud and accessing them from any device.

Cortana is essential in that. Now the only thing I have to do while sitting here by my PC and remembering something essential I need to do tomorrow is to say "Hi, Cortana, remind me tomorrow at 1 PM to buy more whisky". While typing a reply to you, Cortana heard me and tomorrow at 1 PM, wherever I am, my PC, tablet and / or Windows Phone reminds me about that.

But M$ doesn't want to create a real AI, nor they care, they just want your personal information so they can sell it to third parties, and then, they can fill up your throat with annoying ads inside the OS, or to sell that to the Government, or trying to control your OS (The main target of all this crap, there is a post about how the last cumulative update now reverts custom file associations to M$'s standards, and the OS even does that if you reset those back to your likings... experiment? or...).

Honestly? MS sells my drunken Tinder pics to get some cash? I would laugh if it wasn't so sad to think that people really believe BS like that.

Like a stereotype tinfoil hat brigade member you use that old trick telling "there's this post / article telling..." and conveniently forgetting the link to said post or article.

I upgraded last night from Build 14257 to 14267 meaning I am currently running the absolute latest Windows 10 there is, with all updates. All my defaults still working as I have set them up.

That's revenue for M$, that why W10 is free for a year...

:roflmao:

Remember TPP was signed, and companies like M$ are trying to tie up users and force them to do what they want them to do, no matter how much they payed for their hardware, M$ wants to control it, not you...

I am in full control of my computers. I set them up as I want to, personalize and customize as I want to, use them as I want to.

I am truly sorry if you are not capable to control your machines.

That's why people doesn't like W10, that's the problem with the telemetry they added...

People like Windows 10, far more than you guys ever want to admit.

This thread is becoming great fun :)

I have been drinking whisky for years and never had to have a computer or phone tell me when to buy or drink said whisky.

In this context I can only read that as "I have been living for quite a many years and never had to have a computer or phone or calendar remind me about anything".

Sorry, you missed. Next try please.
