Solved How to I change my User-Profile ?

When shutting my desktop, Windows-7 automatically downloaded its latest update, asking me not to power off my PC.
The next day I started my PC and a window appeared asking me to either create-a-new-profile or select an existing profile.
Not knowing which profile I've been happily using, I chose "Default" profile.
Windows started but...

• I lost all my bookmarks
• Some of my cookies were erased so I had to enter my user-id and password at sites I visit daily.
• On the right-portion where I enter URL's of sites I visit; there used-to-be a "search" field, it's gone.

How can I go back to where I can select the user-profile; before Windows did its latest update ??
It's definitely not the one I erroneously chose (default)

Thanks for your response but... mine is a different issue.
I am NOT signing into a "temporary" profile.
I'm signing on with a profile that is not the one I've been using.
The profile assigned (by me in error) is the "default" profile.

I did some research and tried one that recommend doing a "System Restore".
Well... I got the "Search" feature back on the URL "bar" but lost more items I had.
Under the "URL" horizontal bar, I used-to-have a "Bookmark Bar" with links to sites I use daily and now that "bar" is gone !!!
UPDATE:
I was able to create a new but blank "Bookmark" Bar

My bookmarks are still missing too.

Can you see your regular profile under C:\Users\ ?
Try logging off and relog with that one?

I see myself "Dougs" as follows:

• C:\Users\Dougs

Is that what you meant ?

Yup, try log off and log back in as Doug. You know the password if you have one, right?

I've been logging off and on for the past two days.
Always with same bad results (wrong profile loads).

Perhaps just try to create a new profile and copy whatever from correct profile. Can you see your files within C:\Users\Doug?

can you open regedit
and work your way to this screen

now
the s 1 5 21 xxxxxx's 1000 = me (roy = doug) this is the standard user profile
( which is what most people use and yours was)

s 1 5 21 xxxxxx 1002 = update is system generated

if there is another it will have been set up by you ( ie default)
highlight it and if the regexpand sz is c users default thats the culprit

screen shot it please and we'll go from there.

As is obviously to all, I'm a newbie with this stuff.
I've never worked with Regedit but.. will try to do as you advised.
I also have to learn about "screen shot" and pasting it into this thread.

And.... Reg Expand is C:\Users\Didi (My wife!!!).

I believe s 1 5 21 xxxxxx's 1000 is the profile I should be using ???

Don't believe that would help solve my problem.

The login screen has two "names".
Mine and my wife's.

I click on my name and my desktop opens in all its glory.
I click on "Bookmarks" and all my previous bookmarks are gone.

Everything else works ok.

I need to know how I can change my "profile" to:

• s 1 5 21 xxxxxx's 1000

instead of:

• s 1 5 21 xxxxxx's 1003

Actually, she now has her own computer (Laptop)

Logging in as her would make the problem worse.
Her home-page and book-marks are different from mine.

To be on the safe side do it in 2 parts.
Dissable it first, run for a couple of days, then if everythings working delete it.

I get nervous when modifying the registry so... so I'll mull it over for awhile.

By:

I believe I simply would delete the backed-up registry file?
