How do I get W7 MBR system image to restore to converted GPT disk?

I'm stuck and would appreciate any advice one may offer in accomplishing this.

After making a system image of the MBR W7 system on my C: drive then saving it to MBR HDD G:, I converted the C: drive from MBR to GPT.

I reinstalled Windows 7, restored the backups fine but can not get the system image to restore to C:. I'd like to restore my settings, etc.

Any ideas on getting there?

You cannot install a MBR image to a GPT disk, a MBR drive requires a Legacy bios, a GPT disk requires a UEFI Bios.

Clarify if you can, why did you reinstall 7 and are now trying to restore with an image ????

There is no benefit of installing W7 on a GPT disk.

Apparently I either got some bad info or misunderstood on restoring Windows.

I'm OK with W7, so far it does what I want. I want a dual boot system, Windows 7 and Ubunto. Ubunto installs GPT only apparently and I didn't want any trouble booting with MBR / GPT system.

If Ubunto will install on GPT only, then you'd have to put it on an entirely separate disk.

I don't think you can have GPT and MBR partitions on the same disk.

But you can have MBR and GPT disks on the same PC.

Now I have both, but I just hoped not to have to rebuild Windows 7. My important data was backed up, and restored.

I have installed Windows 7 on GPT and on MBR drives and can't really tell any differences.
I always install one operating system on one drive, in my case SSD's.
Never did try two operating systems on one drive.
Which means I don't know if one can run GPT and MBR on the same drive but different partitions.

Right now I have UEFI bios and GPT

The Ubuntu installation disk said that it could cause problems installing to a MBR disk and that possible nothing would boot.

Just run Ubuntu off a flash drive, you`ll hardly ever use it.

First question. MBR image to GPT:
A personal opinion is why bother when using Windows 7 and your OS drive is not > 2TB. If you really want to then Macrium system imaging may allow you to do it.

If you want to run Ubuntu not as your main OS then VMware is a good way to go. My son does this all the time for his studies - he needs to run C++ under linux.
