Create system image. Anyway to select specific partitions on HDD?

I want to create a system image before I use an ISO of Windows 10 to upgrade my PC....

I am using DVD discs to do the image copy,

when you get to inserting the disc it shows you which things will be imaged

eg.

System C
Recovery


But I don't see check boxes next to each one to select or de-select each...

I don't need the recovery partition because I have factory recovery discs

Anyone know how to only select certain partitions like System only?

The system image backup tool will automatically select all drives which are necessary to boot Windows. I'm not sure how your partitions are set up, but it could be that your boot files are in the Recovery partition. This means it would need to backup both.

Open the Start Menu and right click on Computer then select Manage and disk management.
Check if the Recovery partition is set as Active.

This is an OEM btw. I see it listed but it only says (healthy,recovery), the next partition "system" says (active, healthy, primary partition) then ACER:C healthy, boot, primary partition, ect)

There are a few options, the easiest one really is to ditch Windows image backup and use Macrium Reflect free, that should be able to backup just the Windows partition.
Windows image backup is OK, but it's very limited.

Macrium Reflect Free

The other option is to completely wipe out the Recovery partition, if you're never going to use it. But you'll never be able to factory reset the PC if you do that.

I'm going to try Macrium. I'll get back to you and post a follow up as to how it goes.

I have the full set of Windows 7 HP OEM factory correct recovery disks which includes all original partitions including the recovery partition itself.

That's asking for trouble.

I would use a hard drive if at all possible.

If you insist on using DVDs, I would lower my confidence level that I would ever be able to do a successful restore.

So then delete your recovery partition and combine it with C if you don`t need it.

Post a shot of Disk Management so we can really advise you confidently on how to proceed.
