Cant Use Mouse and Keyboard on Welcome Screen

Good evening, Ive had many problems with my Windows lately and got struck with a boot error a few days ago. I solved it by using this tutorialhttp://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/139576-startup-repair-infinite-loop-recovery.html*but I think I may have upset my computer and broken the devices functionality and because I thought my startup from a bootable USB was working as it turned out, I did the settings from within my own computer instead of an installer from the USB which was why startup repair failed in the first place.

Anyway after that ordeal I have to deal with this problem and it seems many people found the solution by accident or pure luck.

Here are some things I have tried:

Start in Safe Mode*
In Last Known Config*
Normal
Disable Driver Signature Enforcement
Start Up Repair
Chkdsk /r
No PS/2 Port
Scannow win dir cannot work because windows resource protection
I tried re-doing registry beehive restoration but to no avvail no luck :/

Im using win 7 ultimate x64, dell xps15z. I have Dell Safety Recovery Backup but not sure if it wipes my memory away as it needs my files to be backed up? Im saving that as a last resort.

Oh and system restore points are a no go, I dont have any.

*Not working in Welcome Screen, Safe Mode and etc.

Keyboard works in bootable usb win 7 but not mouse

Both working in OS own startup repair

Hello and welcome Kolby first up mate yes you will lose all your data if you use the factory restore function so leave that for the time being.

Have you checked for restore points in the Control Panel as per my pic? - tick the small box and see what comes up.

Now with the sfc did you run it as admin?? http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html and if you can best done for about three tries.

Hey thanks for welcoming me. I can only use WinRecovery via my hard drive/ win 7 installation usb to use cmd prompt I have no access to windows except for the welcome acreen which Im stuck in. I will get back to you after doing it for 3 times. Im also trying to use Ubuntu to fix the registry files later on. Also apparently u can make login to windows withkut going through the login screen by creating own user name via cmd prompt but not so sure about that option.

Kolby now the best thing that can happen is for you to get into safe mode - if you don't know how (I am assuming that) you jut need to tap the F8 key when powering up and Windows will only load the very basic and essential files for it's operation and then you can run sfc and chkdsk from there .

If you cannot get safe mode then we might have a real problem elsewhere - for example the hard drive or memory.

Edit I asked re safe mode because I didn't know what the asterix was meant to signify

I cant enter safe mode because the keyboard and mouse wouldnt work. Strangely it works in System Recovery Options

What do you mean by the stick?Do you mean system recovery option? I got it from f8 and then I chose the Repair Windows option

Or did you mean how did I get stuck? I have no idea. It happened after following the tutorial in OP because I needed to fix windows boot problem

No mate I meant the USB drive I usually refer to them as sticks - so in actual fact you have the rescue media from when you first got the machine as most make that up or a DVD for times like this.

Well it seems to me that not being able to access safe mode is a real problem because it is such a very basic function. It is looking more likely than not that you may have to factory reset that machine see this Restoring Your Computer´s Software to the Factory Settings for Windows Vista | Dell US but again it seems you have doen this already.

Now if you are thinking of doing a complete clean reinstall then you can get the data off before you do that using these

Make a bootable Ubuntu disk Download Ubuntu Desktop | Download | Ubuntu
Set the BIOS to boot from the optical when the machine boots it will show you a screen with TRY or INSTALL > select TRY not INSTALL
When it is finished - it takes very little time you will get a screen like in the pic .
Open the drive you want > User and dig down until you get to the data / settings you may be able to copy / paste the material you want to an external source or other installed drive doing this.
I am not sure if it will but I have recovered tons of data etc using this method both on "dead" or just plain drives that you cannot get data from using Windows.

Thank you for replying, I was trying so many stuff ever since you posted it and finally came to conclusion to reformat my hard drive.

Now I'm thinking of replacing my internal hard disk with a new one(to add more RAM and disk space), so can I just recover the files by making my current internal hard drive into an external hard drive and then copy from it or do I still need to backup system files?

Also does copying from my internal hard drive to another external hard drive right now count as 'backing up' or do I need to use a software?(I have Hiren Boot CD) I'm struggling to understand the difference between using a software and just copying and pasting the files to another disk.

I'm now booted from Ubuntu.

Did you get to the point where you enter the user password or it stuck before that? When you boot from the installation disk, do you have mouse and keyboard? With the installation disk, did you do a chkdisk? To find and repair errors that are found in the C: drive, use the following command: chkdsk C: /f

Stuck before entering user pass, it just fails to unload. I think it's the registry hive that got messed up. If I boot from installation disk, I get only laptop mouse and keyboard. I've done that and many other things already.

With BIOS Fast boot option you don't have mouse and other peripheral devices until boot is completed. If you can enter BIOS, disable Fast Boot to enter Safe mode (F8) and find out what is the problem.

Best idea is personally I would use the new dribve clean install and then as you sya copy what files you want back using Ubuntu I have used this method many times. For future back up you would be better of imaging using this http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/73828-imaging-free-macrium.html and I generally image each week and when the images grow to more than four just delete the older ones

But have a read of my ditty and see what you think before you reformat anything

There is no such options.

I will update when I have done the things needed to be executed. Kinda short of money for a new external so I have to wait.

No worries mate if you get the new internal and get all your stuff of it - then if not too old then using it in a USB connected dock or one of those USB to /IDE/SATA adaptors

Actually externals are coming down in price so keep a look out for a good deal. If you lived up the street from me I'd give you one as I have more than I possibly need.

Yes mate that is good pricing as my usual supplier starts ate around $125- $130 for 2 TB.

I have to say though I am not a great fan of large capacity drives because lose it and you lose a lot I agree I don't store a great deal but each to their own eh? I personally have a a few 500MB drives that I label with certain set type of data on ie pics, docs, ISO's

I got about 91 AUS $ on my new 1TB terabyte and I just finished installing. Thanks for your help ICIT2LOL and Megahertz07. I've been at this for a month ¬_¬ I can celebrate by installing more new drivers..?
