Giving the command 'metrics' at the start box will open the text and image changes one can make to
various windows within Win7.

I never seem to get this right but as an example: I go to my Networked Public Folder. I want to enlarge the text. This would be an Exploerer window if I'm not mistaken.

But the path to do this at metrics is not intuitive at all.

The screen indicates when you point to the various windows but changes do not take place where desired due to lack of a common labling between the metric optiona and the unmarked widows dispalyed at this metrics screen. XP seemed to make this a bit easier.

I just want to make the text bigger. That is the first thing I want to tackle in the thread. Having text change in email and response boxes like this will wait for another day.

Also, how do I get to my profile? I have to change my email address to you.

Are you using a aero theme or classic theme?

I have the classic look and I don't think I involked aero. How to check?

For this task I would be willing to change the look if my Explorer could open folders from my home network in a more easy to read style.

Thanks for answering.

How then to go about setting up aero instead? I'm used to the old look and never
got into all the alternate options.

And once done, does it it give that extra size needed in Explorer font text?

Sorry for delay in answering.

I am not getting email notifications. I have to change to a new emial address. Please say
where that is in Sevenforums as I have forgotten. I don't see 'Profile" at the top.

I still think it's a muddle since the comments say, some things work while others don't.

Perhaps knowing what "Active Window" _means_ is a place to start.

Active Window should mean the open pane, such as my network location opening the public folder.
That is controlled by Explorer if I'm understanding it.

The only font changes that ever seem to 'take" from going through every single metric option are down in the tray area.

It's not simple like on the web where control plus key can be used and then, with a correct prompt,
made permanent.

I will review the link but it usually takes me some reading time. I'm not good with screens to begin with.

When it comes to classic theme all you can use is the "metrics" to change font size or change the DPI setting http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/443-dpi-display-size-settings-change.html

Jerry

I am back on this and I am asking for help _not a redirection_ for one specific thing.

Text in my taskbar is whacked from fooling around with all this.

There is no object called task bar in metrics.

In steps, how is the right metric for changing just the _text in the taskbar_ found?

Nothing works for this. I've been through the list.

Foreground, background, the right font and line weight are needed, plus the size of course.

Oddly I have in the task bar a bold font on the time on a different machine also running Win7.
I cannot trace the setting for this because none of the names match: active window, inactive window
etc is a muddle. And border? Who knows what translates to task bar. etc.

In the mean time I am able to review what actually changing to Aero fonts is but I haven't done it.

Today I got an Aero theme going. Many things wrong with it yet:

I made a change to solid color. That's all I have completed.

Further changes from what appears:

Black text on the desktop for folders. I want to change those to white for legibility and the text size made larger.

But in Aero where are the metrics then? And how does all the confusion over
labeling borders, active, inactive a, all of it differ if at all?

Going back to my original question, what is the metric to make text large and change font in the Explorer window such as the one where my networked file folders are stored in the "Public" default folder?

Today I did a bit more in Aero: I can get the same backgrounds I had and thank goodness get rid of the garbage I had from metrics which as I said are very poorly marked.

In the illustration it shows that transparent effect on a window. How to re-solidify that? I just find it annoying.

As to changing Explorer folder text size, still nothing since I don't know and no one has said _which metric_ relates to it.

I at least have a pleasing look and got rid of some of the misapplied fonts etc.

What would help is if you could right click on a screen area and it would tell you 1.) where you are and what the name is and 2.) what the font setup is.

I don't know if this is a big programming task but what exists is not user- friendly in the least.

I am wary about using third party thingies for doing a task--the task is making the text larger
in displaying Explorer folders and files on the computer and it's network files.

I have gotten to the point where text is large enough and readable on everything _but_
the Exporer windows.

Why is this such a big deal? It's incredible to me that text cannot be enlarged with a simple control plus key combination as in websites.

Please say if the downloads and all the rest of the third party themes addresses this specific issue. Otherwise it's a waste of time.

Lon has the classic theme and doesn't want to move off of it for all the 'enhancements' on Aero.

I just want to try asking this a different way.

Which single option in metrics addresses the folder icon and text size for Exploerer? It would be something like 'active window' or one of those.

As some know I have been on this problem of small text my homenet Explorer file window.
Today I was at it again and have found a solution which was not at all apparent. Why the
item "Icon" should control any of this is still an aggravating mystery.

But to get a readable typefont I had to to this:

Make your "Personalization" by finding a blank spot on desktop and right click
then the dialog shows "Personalize."

Open Personalize
Select a plain Windows theme-- mine is old style XP on this Win7 install

Start> type metrics > and the option to "Change Windows Colors and Metrics" opens.

It opens to a Desktop default which will open other options.

Click the down arrow to reveal the other options.

Find Icon on the list

The change I made was to Arial Black 12 pt.

I mentioned aggravation. This change will affect other areas of the windows
adjustments. In other words, now your text on the desktop windows icons might be too large.

(Maybe all this fiddling is corrected in later editions.}

I'm marking this old thread solved.

But one last question since I can't go through all the type fonts.:
I've tried Tahoma and one or other of the Seque fonts. Is there a san serif font
that has a good line weight without going to bold? The font I see right here on
Sevenforums in the reply looks good: It has a good readable line weight, letter spacing
is pleasing and the font I make larger via Cntl+ keys.

Also any other solutions to this kitchen sink process of "options" would be
appreciated-- Ex: improvements to the muddle in Windows 10 perhaps.
