Bootable USB for i7 kaby lake

Hey everyone,

Sooo, just bought a new laptop. The model is below:
E5-575G-728Q | Laptops - Tech Specs & Reviews - Acer

Reading on the internet, I cannot find a reliable source confirming if Windows 7 can be installed on Intel Kaby lake processors. Found sources telling me that you can and sources telling me you cannot.

I needed to try, so I booted an USB with a WIN7 iso using RUFUS and tried to install, however after starting the install I get this:

I tried to use both 3.0 and 2.0 USB ports, same error. I cannot load drivers from same usb or other USB as I cannot access them from there, so I am guessing that's not the issue. I also enabled legacy.
I don't even know what driver I would need.

Am I forced to install Win10? I would very much appreciate any kind of guidance as I do not like WIN10 interface.

Windows 10 would take you a day to customize and learn, you should have left it alone.

Windows 7 will install on a Kaby Lake

It`s a joke that laptops are not coming with a dvd drive.

Win 7 doesn't have some drivers for new MB. You have to load them. That is what it is asking on post 1. It would be simple to load them by a USB flash disk. The problem is that Win 7 doesn't have the USB3 drivers. Then you're stuck. There is a way to load the drivers too the installation disk. The Acer specs makes reference to a SSD. It can also need a specific driver.

But the main thing is that I don't think that Kaby Lake is compatible with Win 7. Many articles I read, It's only compatible with Win 10 and Linux.
Fist thing to check is if you're able to disable secure boot on BIOS. If you can't....

Most people here use some kind of Linux because it's fast, safe and free.

Thank you for your kind replies and indications.
As I read from here and other sources, installing WIN7 may cause a drop in performance. As mentioned in this thread, even though it was forced by Microsoft, for full use of your Kabylake processor you need to install WIN10 or the newest Linux distros.

Hello, I am going to buy i5 7500. Can I bypass this error by installing Windows through a DVD (I have a DVD-RW) and after that install necessary USB 3/motherboard drivers etc. ?

I don`t see why not, As long as your keyboard and mouse work throughout the install.

It`s the motherboard that causes the problem, not the cpu, I mean if I wanted to I could drop a Caby Lake in my board and it should run just fine. But there`s no point.

No one here knows for sure yet. It may work fine through the install until you get to the page to enter the username and that`s where you loose your K & M

Thank you for the reply. This is my first time building a pc, I only used pre-built pcs until today. I have no idea about many issues. I am going to buy MSI Bazooka B250M (I checked it on MSI's page and it has windows 7 drivers) and i5 7500. It has also USB 2.0 ports, so aren't my usb keyboard and mouse supposed to work?

I have both a USB drive and a DVD for Windows 7. So I can install from any of them.

And out of curiosity, what happens if I just plug my current HDD into the new system (MB, CPU, GPU, RAM etc.) and clean all old drivers and then install drivers for new hardware?

In theory it should work, but unless someone comes along and confirms it you`ll never know until you try.

And if MSI has W7 drivers then I really don`t see any issue

- Don't think that the USB 2.0 will work as they are driven by the chipset.

Actually, B is for business. H is the budget chipset. The chipset within the same generation doesn't matter at all, they'll all work the same way.

Putting a hard drive in a new system will not destroy someones data. User data remains untouched on the drive. The operating system will (attempt to) install new drivers and that may not work very well. Putting it back may cause further problems. Changing hardware can cause the license to become invalid. It will would need to be checked again.

As it stands, what we have with Kaby Lake desktop is effectively Sandy Bridge polished to within an inch of its life, a once-groundbreaking CPU architecture hacked, and tweaked, and mangled into ever-smaller manufacturing processes and power envelopes. Where the next major leap in desktop computing power comes from is still up for debate—but if Kaby Lake is any indication, it won't be coming from Intel.

It worked! And I just used MSI Tool from its website. My keyboard and mouse worked perfectly and still work. I didn't change anything on bios, it detected USB instantly. Though I have another problem now, thanks everyone.
