Greetings,

It is about my WD 1TB External HDD, which became 931GB unallocated after I wrote .img on it's partition (bymistake of course). It had 1 partition only of 93x GB and I had to write that .img on a sd card drive using WinDiskManager. But unfortunately, I didn't check partition and it was written to my 1TB :(

Anyway, as now it has became unallocated and I was reading sevenforum and I don't get what is the best and easy way to recover the partitions and DATA of course.

Any help would be really appreciated. BR

Tell us more about WinDiskManager - exactly what click choices were made to get that image onto the external hard-drive? If WDM did not quick-format, then perhaps the folder structure and the data file names just might be intact. A quick-format will wipe out the "post office" that contains the addresses and names of the deleted folders and files. The well-known "laziness" of copy operations ever since earlier DOS and Windows may work in our favor of data recovery.

Hi, the program was actually: Win32DiskImager.
Win32 Disk Imager download | SourceForge.net
I just selected .img and click write.

There are any number of partition recovery utilities, and a lot of data recovery utilities. I don't know what Win32 DiskImager / ImageWriter did just before it made the IMG onto the external HD. Or, did you have Win32 DI/IW take an IMG file and create a bootable device?

Probably that did a quick-format on that external HD; we're left with data recovery that will search the entire HD, looking for recoverable files, much like gathering up car parts from all over the junkyard.
I've heard that good results come from TestDisk's PhotoRec, however, I do not know how to walk you through that. Others in the know will have to enter in and help.

Okay. I check with TestDisk and PartitionWizard tool. Is it partition that I have to recover now or is it formatted and need to recover files? In Disk Managment I see 931GiB unallocated. But nothing in Computer as Drives.

I honestly do not know if a partition needs to be recovered or just the files need to be recovered. I'm going to listening mode to learn alongside you.

Update: I check with TestDisk and Analyse but it was talking a lot of time. Partition wizard needs time+registered version to copy files I think? Then I use cracked version of PartitionGuru program, manually found my HDD Partition. All data is there, but again can't copy even with cracked version of this.

If anyone know of free version that have "Custom Cylinder Range" option? And that too allow save DATA?

If there is no way to get back data without the full version of XYZ software. Then I will pay. But if there is a way, then I shall try it first.
