Is Windows 7 still popular these days?

Running Win 7 Pro 64. It's my favorite. I have no plans to go to Win 10 at all.

me too, though I use Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64...

I just wonder how Windows 11 will turn out when they start development at some point in the next 5 years probably.... I just hope they don't scr*w Windows up even more....

Well, you know dang well they will (change things), just because they can, and to justify some dude's paycheck.
And, as more and more people move their internet and communication work away from a real PC, whether desktop or laptop or tablet, to their Smart Phone, Microsoft will create new OS's to match the new hardware.

I've lost many of my computer customers, just because they don't use their PC's any more. They do everything with their Smart Phone that they used to do with their computers.

I've tested and or run every Windows version since Windows 3.0, and that includes most versions of Windows 10, and yet today I'm very happily running Windows 7 pro/32 as my main OS.

That's what most people did when they left XP. They just went to an iPhone or a Samsung Galaxy. In fact, look at this article. Even if it's only semi-accurate reporting, it indicates a true trend.

You missed the point. While most people used computers only for social media, shopping, etc., most of which can be done on smartphones or tablets, there are people still have needs that cannot be physically and economically met with smart phones or tablets but can be met by computers. A smartphone or a tablet simply cannot meet my needs, both physically or economically.

And I don't need—or want—to be connected to the world 24/7. The only cell phone I carry is a dumb as rocks flip phone that does only one thing: make phone calls. I have text messaging (if someone wants to talk to me, they can TALK to me) and voice mail disabled (also to avoid charges for spam calls) and the phone stays turned off until I need to use it, which is rarely. The phone cost only $12 so if I lose or break it, I'm not out much money. I'm using a pay as you go plan that is costing me only $5.45 a month (and the unused amount rolls over every month indefinitely).

Win 7 meets my needs far better than 8.1 or 10 (especially 10!).

Yea cell phones are way too small even the larger ones are silly to carry around so no way it could ever replace an actual desktop or even a laptop imho
I'm sure not looking to down grade an iphone to a win-10 phone I would care if it was free meaning really free

All I can say is you all must have very big pockets, you'd have to to carry around a desktop .

I have to be available 24/7 so if I go out I carry a smartphone, it also integrates with my In car systems to keep my sat nav up to date with the very latest traffic situations. It will also work hands free for calls and read my texts to me, even my emails if I want to. When I'm at home I use one of my Desktops, when I travel I use one of my tablets or a laptop depending on where I am going and if there are internet facilities available, More and more stores, coffee shops, restaurants & other places have free network service, and more and more Town & cities provide free access to the net in public areas - If not I can use my phone to provide wireless internet - to about 12-15 Mb/s which is usable for general work

I'm retired. I don't need have 24/7 access other than at home nor do I have to be available 24/7. Not to mention I don't want either. It's my time; I'll determine how it gets used.

I do take a notebook with me when I travel but it gets used only when I'm at where I'm staying.

I just got an Elitebook 8460p that is running windows 7 pro 64 bit and suprisingly so far it seems to work very nicely.... now if only I can get it to allow me to install my digital ham radio driver so I can program my radio with it that would be very nice. I have a windows 10 laptop that I upgraded from windows 7 home that lets me program the radio so must be something on how the driver is made for it..... it is really strange though.

Folks, what ever makes your boat float.

No device replaces another device. Their is no laptop that can do what either of my two desktops can do.
For those that travel have different needs, than those that don't.
I personally don't have any kind of cell phone for two good reasons.
1. I don't need one.
2. I don't want one.
I have no portable devices of any kind for the same reasons.

Now my big point is that my needs or desires don't match Nigel's needs or desires. So we have different hardware to match what we need and what we want.
Their isn't a right or wrong.
When and if the time comes that I need or want a portable device, I will get one.

Indeed I use an iphone now on 5s I believe so I may end up with a iphone 6 or 7 but it will be a cheap deal if i do
I'll end up switching to verizon when my at&t contract is over I've been with them way too long and cell service is the only item I have with them now.
But no way a windows phone will be in my pocket I know that for sure

I have very few apps but the ones I do use I'd like to keep
I do really despise texting and the people that insist on doing it to me which I mostly ignore :mad2:

Yeah Windows7 has always been a standard OS which many preferred. Many of the people still use Win7 for its best features.

I'm 72 now, came to computing late in my late 50's after injury and disability ended my former career as a workshop foreman and motor engineer. I had never used a computer in my life, but had to change careers and did so by attending a Technical college at wekends and a 12 month course at a dedicated Disability college on weekdays. I began with Windows 3.1, a second hand clunker of a monster case with a Cyrix CPU, (I think) a huge 8 GB of Hdd and a massive 128MB of RAM. I began to investigate the innards of each new/pre owned machine I bought, learned the nuts and bolts and began building my own. Now we have in our home, the devices in my spec's.

I bought the missus a HP DV7 laptop and a Kindle, bought her a better Lenovo and gave the HP to a grandaughter. Then we bought a smartphone each, not a phone that anyone outside the UK might recognise: a Wileyfox, it's actually British. I realised that failing eyesight meant that I could not read e - books on the 5.5" phone, so I bought an 8" Lenovo tablet and began to experiment. Now I can tether the tablet to the phone as a Hotspot and throw my music, pictures, books and videos around to and from devices, using streaming via the NAS and/or Google Drive.

I did all this because I see computers as tools that can be assembled (desktops) or used to carry out tasks, find information, plan some Diy, decorating, repairs or garden jobs. That is my engineer's brain at work and the one thing that has saved my sanity, is the ability to sit down and work with devices. I like to learn new stuff and I like to try to stay abreast of tech if I can. Which is why I now believe that Windows has had its day: it was a long day, but I think that Google will be the company that will replace Windows. When 7 support ends in 2020, I will probably find something else, and I believe that something else will probably be a derivative of the Chromebook. There is just so much that can be done with Google stuff, and it is becoming more and more integrated. It is no coincidence that Google has now overtaken Apple and Microsoft.

using it. I do not even own a mobile phone, never have, just use the landline. I will probably keep using

Windows 7 after 2020. I do have a new Windows 10 pc, but have not done much with it yet, because it

Linux isn't somewhat a no-brainer software. It actually p'd me off that I need to type something in the terminal to be able to download something or execute a program.

I was told to type in it, did not work. I do not find it that user friendly for the average pc user like me.
