Accidentally Deleted Files From 100MB "System Reserved" Partition

I got my system reserved partition mixed up with the memory card I inserted. I formatted the System Reserved partition. I have yet to reboot and fear my system may not start if I do. Is it possible to repopulate this partition with the files it needs?

Are there any other instructions that go with using this? Do I need to do anything to the drive first? Reformat it again (with specific parameters) or anything else? Did a search for this on the internet and I can find internet posts that link to this, but nobody is really explaining how to use it properly.

I would download free unformat software and give that a shot it should be able to recover all files well worth a shot

Sadly my wife thought the System Reserved was the USB stick she just plugged in. So the first thing she did was fill it with new data. The small size of the drive tipped her off to what had happened, after the fact. I've already tried two different software suits and after deep scans, not a single file has been found.

I created a boot CD and got into the environment. I'm not sure if you intended me to use a tool built into this recovery environment or if I need this environment to do something else? Note that I have rebooted my computer and it went back into windows fine, despite the now empty System Reserved drive being empty too.

I wouldn't mess with it either - the important stuff will recreate itself. I'll bet you now have a hidden system directory on your C: drive called System Volume Information - it doesn't have to be a separate partition. That's how it is on my system - I don't have a separate System partition, never had...

Yes, I have a folder named that on my Windows drive. However, it is 0bytes in size.

From your screenshot, C is the system partition. That means your 100mb system reserved is not doing anything and not required.

You can leave it as is.

The reason she could write files there is because it has a letter, the SR partition is not suppose to have a letter.

How did it ever get a letter ?

Me neither, I always create a partition for windows.

You can leave it as is.

Or you can delete the SR partition and use Partition Wizard to extend C to the left to reclaim the space, but it`s only 100 MB so that choice is up to you.

A while back I ran into a problem with a corrupted Net 2.0 install. I found an internet blog article where the guy made a typo (something I later discovered when reading the comments, but after already trying the article instructions). Needless to say I had to work with some undelete software and it took a long while to fix. During that time I used a Windows Repair Disc and after one of its "auto fix" options was applied, I then had that system reserved, complete with drive letter. Though I later got in and changed the drive letter to "S".
