Hey all, I got a major problem.

Background, I just installed and was playing a new game Starpoint Gemini Warlords when my computer just decided to BSOD about 2-3 hours into the game. After that, the computer restarted and other than the option to restart in safe mode everything seemed ok. This is when I started noticing problems. Everytime I load up a webpage/tab in either Internet Explorer or Google Chrome it will be fine for say 2-5 minutes. After that it will randomly crash

For example:

Sorry I don't see a spoiler hide option. I've had about 10 tabs crash in IE, not all at the same time, usually one after the other. I also did not manage to catch the Chrome error. IE does not display any symptoms of problems, pages loaded up fine, even those running flash etc like bbc news pages and youtube. Chrome loaded things slower but that's the only observable thing.

Edit: Chrome just crashed, saved the info this time

I've not tried playing any games since, just played music via winamp and a movie with windows media player, they are not crashing. Only Internet explorer and Google Chrome is. I've not tested out playing any games as I don't want to break something even worse. Restarting my computer did not help.

I've included all the relevant stuff I hope in this dropbox folder. I hope someone might have a solution as the only thing I can think of is a hard format and reinstalling OS which I really don't want to do. Thanks for any help, I'm quite desperate as trying to troubleshoot it for the past few hours have turned up dead ends.

Speculation: some sort of memory or cache problem?

More Info: I was testing out Armoured warfare a semi high graphical need game. While that ran smoothly for about 20 minutes, throughout that period I was getting these IE tab crashes every 2-3 minutes. If it was a graphics card issue I think playing that game would have crashed instead of or at the same time as IE tabs

Hi ICIT2LOL, sorry been a year since I last visited this forum and it was only for another major problem. Spent whole of last night trying to self fix the problem but brain wasn't working at the end. I've run the program as asked and attached the zip file. Thanks

Hi PlanesWalker85,

Please uninstall the Intel driver Update utility, it is known to cause this specific crash issue.

Hi Roy,
I've uninstalled it and restarted my computer but problem still occurs. I think that BSOD knocked out a lot more than I thought. I had a suggestion to reinstall both IE and Chrome to see if that might solve it but I think that's only a band aid solution? Thanks

I've also left both IE and Chrome tabs open in the background with webpages such as this forum open and it still crashes while my computer is idling. Unfortunately this is beyond my amateur repair skills

Just to add, my computer so far has not BSOD today, just those 2 programs crashing from the initial BSOD last night.

I'm not sure how to find the culprit.

Edit: From my further research it seems that the toolbars might be a culprit? However my IE and Chrome don't have similar toolbars active.

Steam and playing PC games also fine, discord and voice chat ok, doesn't look like anything else was corrupted by that BSOD, just the browsers I hope/think.

Quick update, I've reinstalled Chrome and so far both IE and Chrome are 'behaving' no crashes yet, going to observe and see what happens. Think reinstalling Chrome might have 'refreshed/overwritten' the possibly corrupt file which is causing crashes.

Hi Planeswalker85,

missed the word DEP,

this is a specific setting and can be found and changed by the user,
the tutorial here covers 7 as well

Ok, looks like I self solved it by reinstalling Chrome. Think it refreshed/overwrote or something the corrupted/damage files. I've been in contact with that games' devs and its up to them to fix the games problem. My computer has been running for 3 days now and I'm doing all my usual things etc. Only thing is a slight slowdown for Chrome loading some webpages but that's it.

I did not tinker with any DEP settings since it seemed the problem was fixed.

Anyways thanks to you both for your help, even though I fixed it my end its nice to have people like you helping the windows 7 community. I'll be sticking to win 7 until they release win 11 or 10.1, lol.

Hmm now I am using a new browser right now called Cyberfox and it based around the Mozilla stuff and if you want to try it your "gear" can be transferred form Chrome for whatever browser you are using.

Personally I find it a not so intrusive as Chrome and fast. You can always uninstall it after wards if you don't like it https://cyberfox.8pecxstudios.com/
