I am attempting to connect 2 home computers in order to transfer files. I can connect them just fine through my wireless Netgear router and transfer files wirelessly without difficulty. But when I turn off the wireless router and hard-wire the 2 computers with some cat 5 and a Netgear FS 105 Ethernet Switch, I cannot get the computers to recognize each other. They don't appear to be networked.

Does anyone have a clue as to why that is or how I can get them networked through the Ethernet Switch?

Thanks for any and all advice!

If you connect them directly away from the router there will be no dhcp server so they have no way of getting a valid IP to connect directly you need to set a static IP on both PC's

Yes I have already done that. I assigned the one local connection an ip of 192.168.1.1 and the local connection on the 2nd PC an ip address of 192.168.1.3. Yet when I ping the 2nd computer from the 1st the request times out.
