I have a bunch of questions

I'm using the Pro 64 bit version.

1) On my music/media folders I can't arrange the files the way I want it; they just snap in place. Is there a custom setting in there?

2) Sometimes when I play a video, the taskbar switches color to match the video. How do I make it to constantly match my wallpaper?

3) Is there a way to bring the Show Desktop to the left side?

4) What's a good program to create shortcuts? I used WinKey before this, but it's not supported in Windows 7.

5) I can't seem to change the icon for my mp3s. I chose Foobar to open them, but I can only get the icon I want to display if I set them to open with WMP.

Hello Chaoz,

Welcome to Seven Forums.

1) They have removed the no sort choice, so you can no longer arrange them in any order you like. There are several choices though.

2) Haven't heard of this yet. Maybe someone else has a thought.

3) No

4) You can easily create a new shortcut by rt. click choose new and shortcut. Browse to the location of the target, Next, Give it a name, Finish. To give it a different icon, right click the new shortcut/properties/Change icon. Browse to the icon you wish to use select it, press OK.

5) Haven't used Foobar, but sounds like it is not picking up the icons properly. Do you have the latest version? You could try running in Compatibility mode, but I don't know that it will help. Info here if needed: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/316-compatibility-mode.html

On item 2, I think what you are referring to is like I have experienced with a couple of programs. Apparently, some programs will disable the Deskop Windows Manager Sessions Manager in services. It should return to normal once the program causing it is closed. However, I did have a problem with it not being restored with QT Player, and I had to use the Aero Theme Troubleshooter to fix it.

That's the point, I don't want it on my desktop. I don't want it to be seen by others if you catch my drift.

I put the shortcuts in the Start Menu and assign a hotkey to each shortcut. This has worked for me since Windows 95, and it still works for Windows 7.

I have no icons on my desktop. I assign a shortcut key to every single program on my computer, and I memorized all of them.

It's a lot faster than clicking stuff on the desktop, and my desktop is not cluttered.

Perhaps I don't understand the paranoia or security, but the shortcut would only be on the desktop for a few seconds while you made and moved them. Just make sure no one is looking over your shoulder.

I have not actually tried using a keyboard shortcut yet, so I could be wrong, but with my Logitech keyboard, using the SetPoint driver, I can navigate to any file at any location to set a hotkey. Perhaps you are speaking of something else...I'm not sure. Of course, the number of hotkeys available are somewhat limited.

I fixed the shortcut problem with another program. Now I have some more questions:

6) On my media folders, how do I make a toolbar option that will arrange my files by date modified? I can do it from right clicking, but I want it like how Vista does it.

7) There are programs not showing up in the notification area. It's not listed when I go to customize either.

And if there are any programs to fix my earlier questions that would be sweet.

6) Right click on the column headings bar. Select date modified. The new column will appear. You can now click on the column header to sort.

Hmm, it seems that column headings only appear in the "details" view. I like mine in "List" view, and I get the headings there? I know it was there in Vista.

7) The only time that I have had a problem with a program not appearing in the notification area when it is running, is if the program has crashed, or has some kind of problem. If that is the case, it wouldn't open a window either. To correct that, go to the Task Manager and kill it's process, and restart the program.

For foobar2000, it must be a bug with the latest version because I do have foobar2000 here too on the RC and the icons for the MP3s, FLAC, WAV, etc are rightly associated. Did you associate Foobar to the files using "Default Software" in the Start Menu? Otherwise, it's not automatic if I recall.

Just tried it, but it still doesn't work.
