Solved CRT Monitor Problem

More than 2 years ago I purchased a 17-inch CRT monitor
from a computer store that was replacing CRTs with LCDs
at a big discount from the usual price.

Last July 26 I started using this monitor. Everything was
fine until August 1. There were messages that kept
appearing: "OSD Lock", then "OSD Unlock", followed
by the appearance of the menu for adjusting the image
(Brightness/Contrast, etc.). The messages flash at a few
minutes interval.

Is there anyone here who has experienced this problem?
What needs to be done to get back to normal operation?

TIA to anyone who provides an answer.

I would get a can of air and hose it down real good. Dust can make electronics behave strange. Verify all wire connections are in good order. You also might want to connect your power supply to a scope and see what's up.

Yes! When it was new I use the Menu to adjust the
Brightness/Contrast. But now with the "OSD Locked"
I can't access the Menu.

Very dangerous advice. A CRT monitor has several thousand volts inside the case, and the capacitors can retain this voltage for days - even when switched off.

Probing around the PSU could prove fatal !

BTW - who has an oscilloscope at home ? Most folk reading this thread wouldn't even know what a 'scope is.

omar7. According to your System Specs you have a NVIDIA graphics card installed, so you might be able to change the monitor from NVIDIA.

To try this Right Click on the Desktop & select NVIDIA Control Panel. When that opens you should see a menu that allows changes to be made, one being Adjust Desktop Colour Settings & you will see Use NVIDIA Settings. Click on the & you should be able to adjust colours etc. by using the slide controls.

Most noobs don't know not to have one hand on the metal chassis when probing around a CRT. Result - a few kv across the heart. Also most scopes wouldn't take kv on the input.


Fry the human, fry the scope - great advice.
