Greetings.

Picked up an unbranded intel 7260 pcie card to be used in i7 6600u machine. Need help with getting internet access using the ac wifi 5Ghz band.

The specs says 867mbps ac wifi with bluetooth 4. But on first test, neither was detected by the system.

Web search yielded a fix: taping pin 51 of the card, and disable L1 Substates in bios PCI setting. Both wifi and BT are now detected by the system. However, internet access is only available for the 2.4Gz band.

Further web search yielded a fix for windows 10: Disable New DMA devices in BitLocker Drive Encryption of Group Policy Setting. However, no such entries were found in windows 7.

So, how to fix the no internet issue with 5Ghz ac wifi using 7260 card?

Your kind assistance is most appreciated.

Best regards,

I'm assuming you saw this, but apparently you also have to tape pin #20 AND there is some confusion about where exactly to tape. See final post.

It sounds like the Win10 fix you mentioned disables a new Win10 feature so that Win10 operates as did W7, which means there is no equivalent W7 fix needed

Greetings John, thanks for the kind reply.

You may be right about the non-availability of W7 fix. The symptoms disappeared after reinstalling the drivers.

Here a quick guide for those who may have an interest in these capable wifi cards:

1. Tape pin 51 to enable BT radio.
2. Tape pin 20 to enable WIFI. In some systems, this can be acheived by disabling the PCIe's L1 Substate entry in the BIOS setting.
3. Symptoms of no internet access typically occurs after installation of OS updates. This can usually be fixed by uninstalling/removal/re-installing of the drivers.
4. If the issue remains, W10 users can add the followng registry entry. W7 users are out of luck.

Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\FVE]
"DisableExternalDMAUnderLock"=dword:00000000

Update

Installed w10 update 254 and, perhaps not surprisingly, lost internet connection.
Thankfully issue was resolved reinstalling the driver without resorting to disabling Bitlocker Encryption.
Big test coming up when W7 September monthly rollup is released.
