[Resolved] No internet access with ethernet, but wireless works

Firstly: Hello sevenforums!

It seems there are many others with this problem, but none of the solutions seem to work for me, yet.

I have a Motorola sb 5101 cable modem connected to a nameless 10/100mbps Ethernet switch, and then a PC connected with an ethernet cable to the switch and an Apple Airport express station also connected to the switch.

The PC can access the modem homepage at 192.168.100.1, but no internet.
An apple laptop connected with wireless to the airport can connect to the internet just fine (although a bit slow). Disconnecting the airport's ethernet connection and connecting it directly to the Apple laptop displays the same symptoms as the ethernet connected PC (No internet, Modem home page accessable).
Apple laptop connected directly to Modem cannot connect to modem home page or internet. (PC can't reach a direct connection )

The PC has auto IP and DNS turned on (DHCP)

The modem manual says that "Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address" suggests a problem between the PC and the router, but I am not sure what.

I would gladly appreciate any help!

Hey thanks for the link, I think I'll post here to avoid hijacking that thread though..
I tried what you said, no luck (with 192.168.100.1 etc instead). I've gone and killed the bonjour service, no luck. Its odd though, looking at cmd > Route Print it says the network destination for 0.0.0.0 comes from the gateway specified. And if I 'route delete 0.0.0.0' it removes the gateway setting.
Weird.

Set your default gateway from the advanced button in the ipv4 properties page. Try 192.168.0.1 to match the subnet mask...

Hi thanks for the help, I've resolved the problem.
It appears the modem does not have routing support (It has an optionbox for dhcp, but apparently does not use it when connected to the internet - it uses the ISPs DHCP or something).

So the two options with this configuration I had was:
1. Find the IP the modem is connecting with, and directly connect to the ISP - this would expose the PC directly to the internet and would require a static IP.
2. Use the Airport express router as a LAN router to be my gateway. However, as the manual states, the Airport express base station cannot act as both a WAN and LAN router at the same time. Only one or the other. Apparently the 'extreme' version supports this - and is obvious as it has more ethernet ports.

So I resolved this by simply getting a wireless card off a friend. After some issues with the drivers, it works fine.
