I have a desktop running on W7 pro x64. Recently bought a Thinkpad laptop that is running with W10 pro x64. I'm trying to share a drive and printer on my W7 machine with the laptop. If I open Network on the laptop, I can see both and the printer is shared and running correctly. I cannot open the drive though. Getting: Windows cannot access \\ Desktop\h (which is the wanted shared drive) You do not have permission to access...Contact your network administrator to request access.

I read a lot of threads on the net about this issue but none of the suggestions work for me. I understand that Microsoft would probably prefer that I use their cloud and that's why they made it so complicated to share files directly. Don't know ifthe restriction comes from W7 or W10. Any suggestions would be much appreciated

When you connect by default it passed the username and password your logged in with you can map a drive and enter a username password that is the of your connecting to. Have you set the share with everyone access then you need to set NTFS permission the same

" you can map a drive and enter a username password that is the of your connecting to" that is interesting. There Is a tutorial that tells us we need to create a user and pass on each computer that is the same. Then we can share the drive with win 10. But now you have introduced a new concept. This would be less complicated to simply map the drive with user and pass of the win 10 machine.
