I do not think it's a driver problem. But you can go to device manager and uninstall the keyboard driver and restart laptop the driver will load upon restart. Most likely the keyboard itself needs to be changed as an external keyboard works. You could try reseating the ribbon cable to motherboard.

Hi sheffieldyorky,

I am searching for a Toshiba Satellite C 850 - 1kn keyboard driver.

I think that this is more likely to be a defective keyboard than a driver issue.

Please perform this [it will rule out device errors] . . .

Under the heading msinfo32 [MS System Information] - Problem Devices . . ., please run MS_Info32_Find_Problem_Devices.bat, Option [2] from here => BATCH PROGRAMS [Standalone] and then upload the results using the tutorial at the bottom of the above link [Upload to SevenForums . . .] and someone will look at it for you.

NOTE: The reason I link to the thread above rather than posting the .bat file here is because it makes it easier if I have to amend the batch script. This way, I only have to amend it and upload it to one location.

I hope this helps!

When first got this machine in for repair it needed a new motherboard while I had it I installed a new processor.
I then installed a new operating system and inserted the product key using the original keyboard.
The machine has been working fine for several weeks but now it comes back az a "keyboard fault"
What I will do is plug in a USB keyboard and run the M. S info file.
I will then post the results

Is it always the same key that fails? What if you press SHIFT + key together - still blank?

It looks to me to be a keyboard problem, rather than a driver problem (I have not known a driver to cause that kind of issue). To confirm, can you try the external keyboard on a different computer?

Hi Paul
Many thanks for getting back to me, but this is not a defective keyboard.
But anyway after a bit of messing about I ran the MS_Info etc. and this is what the result is;
==================================================================================================================
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This now edited because entered the wrong information as asked

==================================================================================================================
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
First of all let me say I lined everything up with the USB keyboard and because I was required to press option 2 I used the on-board keyboard as the number 2 is a working character.
The reason why you see it above in plain text is because I tried "event viewer" and I couldn't find it, maybe I did some thing wrong.
But as you will see I got everything because I checked it on the screen.
I have a "word document" should it be needed.
What puzzles me is this line;

"Windows has checked the file system and found no problems"

But there clearly is a problem, plus I have re-seated the ribbon cable.

Using the USB keyboard on the laptop there are no problems whatsoever.

Hi sheffieldyorky,

Hello Jaynes: YOUARE ABOUT TO RUN CHKDSK!

The reason why you see it above in plain text is because I tried "event viewer" and I couldn't find it, maybe I did some thing wrong.

That is NOT the file I asked you to run as per Post #3, but it does show that you DON'T have any Bad Sectors which is good. It might be best to edit your previous post and remove the ouput generated from running the file!

The error is a PCI Error. PCI [Peripheral Component Interconnect] is a local computer bus for attaching hardware devices in a computer.

You will need to find and install the driver which could possibly sort out the keyboard error!

I hope this helps!

Toshiba Satellite C850 - 1KN

Hi sheffieldyorky,

OK, in your specifications it just says Custom Build!

One of these should get what you need =>

[1] Toshiba Support.
[2] Toshiba Support.

I hope this helps!

Hi Paul
Thanks for that
[1] takes you straight to the ASUS website

[2] takes you to the dynabook site.

I type in the following;
Toshiba Satellite C 850 - 1KN
I get nothing
Then there is or select a product.
So I select laptops
to the right is product series
On the drop downs there is no reference to Toshiba, I'm not going to list them all

Here I type in "Toshiba Satellite C850 - 1KN" which is the make and model that I am looking for.
The results are divided into two colums
Toshiba support and Microsoft support
Toshiba support
Has no mention of my make and model
Microsoft support
Has one mention of my make and model, please see below.
