MS don’t call it SP2, but that what it is.

It’s single, Multi language, 488MB update file (msu). On a recent installation, you must have first to install KB3020369.
For more information read this article: Simplifying updates for Windows 7 and 8.1 – Windows for IT Pros

===============

Looks like another day on the computer.

First, I looked up if I have IA-64-based versions...This would be 'hardware' I guess. So I did a search for Gateway NV55C AMD...NOTHING...Then I looked up how to check...NOTHING...So, I am going to ASSUME
I don't have that...

First step:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3020369/april-2015-servicing-stack-update-for-windows-7-and-windows-server-200

Download:

Update for Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 Edition (KB3020369)

Done...no 'restart' needed
================

Next...

Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3125574) Windows 7 Updates 5/16/2016 Microsoft Update Catalog

It's being installed now.....

================

This windows 7 came up Internet Expl ..7 or 8....It has been impossible to move it to I.E. 9, 10 or 11

In the Control Panel...Turn Windows features on or off.. I see one of the boxes does state I.E. 11. I don't use I.E. ... I use Fox Fire. I don't want update for I.E. The box is NOT checked.

You instructions seem to assume I use I.E....Can I:

1. KB3125574 and KB3020369 install

2. Do a 'restart'

3. Go to the list of available 'updates' and hide everything on that list before April 2016

The important lines in your post

This windows 7 came up Internet Expl ..7 or 8....It has been impossible to move it to I.E. 9, 10 or 11
In the Control Panel...Turn Windows features on or off.. I see one of the boxes does state I.E. 11

your contradicting yourself

SP2 requires SP1 ---- IE8 comes prior to SP1 so i have to assume youve NOT got SP1

Updates do NOT require any further IE upgrades
(my mrs lappy only has IE8, turned OFF, still updates)

Roy:

I tried for one day...July12...to use the I.E.(8?) that 're-installing' gave me. I was constantly directed by the sites to get a newer I.E.

I tried...Microsoft I.E. 9, 10 ...download failed...failed failed.

In the Control Panel ... under "Turn Windows features on or off." I decided to turn it off...it was not on I.E. 11 at that time...I had put on Fox Fire before I broke off the only browers I had..I.E. 8.

Today, after reading what I needed to do, I went back to "Turning Windows features on and off'...it was still 'unchecked' but the words next to the box were I.E. 11.

So...it is unclear how I.E. 11 became an option in my 'Turning Windows Features' But it has been in the 'uncheck' position since July 12... It was 'on' for about a day...and to the best of my knowledge..'on' as I.E. 8 or 9.

It comes down to..I don't want I.E. anything...

1. I want to keep "it" turned off under the Windows Features.

2. With the two recommended uploads now on my computer...can I stop uploading updates, except for ones dated April 2016?

BTW...both the two Updates mentioned have been successfully downloaded ( KB3125574 and KB3020369 install) and the last one installed required a 'reboot'

After it rebooted, I looked at New Windows update...and the list has not changed...the number is now 113 since I hid a few and download a few...since my reinstall had shown 200.

Can I hide all these now that I have the two above?

Roy:

" I can only assume, you do not have SP 1"...per Roy

Hi Megahertz07
First, a quick thank for you to keep this thread up-to-date !

Question for you regarding KB3125574 (aka SP2),
On my W7x64SP1 machine, I've recently noticed Windows Update pushes me many "supposedly SP2-superseded" updates ("pushes" as in "it list them as KB to be installed")

How can I fix this ? Reinstalling KB3125574 ?

The KB3125574 is a single file that contain all updates since Win 7 released to April 2016. (security and non security updates)
From April 2016 to today, many other updates has been released, in monthly packages Rollup and security only updates. To avoid telemetry and unnecessary updates, I have set Services - Windows Update - Manual. On WU page I have set it to Never check and monthly I install the Security ONLY updates. I then run WU manually to find updates for Office etc and decide witch one to install.

As an alternative, my suggestion is to set Services - Windows Update - Manual and on WU page set it to Never check.
Then run UpdatePack7R2 to download an up to date Simplix file.
Simplix is a single file (850MB) that contain all updates since Win 7 released up to date. It has all security and non security updates without the trash (telemetry and tracking). Very good.
Then run WU manually to find updates for Office etc and decide witch one to install.

To uninstall the telemetry, run cmd file to uninstall those KB files.
kb_spy.cmd.txt
Rename it as KB_Spy.cmd and run it.

Yes it does. I've downloaded both the update and the patch. Thanks to both you and SIW2 for posting those, and also the listing in your OP. I haven't decided which method to use yet. I'll likely download those you list from the MS catalog as well, and get whatever hardware I decide on. Then it's just a matter of setting aside time to build and install.

Would I be correct in thinking that, while the update pack is convenient for installing updates on an installed win 7, the separate files are useful also for integration into an install disk? Is there a link for a good primer for doing so?

Thanks. For clarification, isn't 19.11.18.exe a patch for 19.11.15? How would that work?
