since i bought the machine from a "Computer Hut" I just always press F1 and it comes on
Since I can't get WMP to rip, and lessor issues I thought this might be a issue.

Do I need to move on this or just let it go and continue to just press F1 to start daily tasks

thanx

Get into BIOS and change the order boot priority putting floppy last and making the HDD 1st; or try restoring defaults on that page (you will see which key to press).

Thanks--BIOS is that a planet ha ha ha

tho i bet your exactly right, just to quickly with out more detail for my small brain, I think I will wait here for more detailed info, a friend of mine cost himself 200 bucks messing with bios. ha ha he has done many things like that, and i have sworn not to walk in his foot steps, ha ha ha, he decided he would fix a huge cassette player clock radio, with little flip card numbers to tell the time, he put capacitors in backwards and they blew up near his left ear as he also blew a breaker plugging it back in, I told him to picture frame it and hang in his wood shop, as it might save his life one day.
thanks again and please never assume I will know what clicks to make anywhere.
thing is I bought this comp from a shop, I think the seller would have done something close to as you suggest if is was a easy fix.

Normally if someone wants help they will at the very least post the computer brand and model so folks here will at least know where to start. sverne gave you the solution.

To get into BIOS once you turn on the computer start tapping the F2 key.

Once in BIOS look for a boot priority screen setting or something similar.

On the bottom of the screen will give you key commands to use. Sometimes it may say pressing the space bar will enable/disable a feature. If your BIOS is newer it's all mouse point and click. In which case just untick the floppy drive option.

The other option would be to move the hard drive to priority one so that the computer boots from it first rather than the floppy drive.

It seems you have a old computer.
Old computers has a floppy disk drive connector and the BIOS has a setting to enable a scan to look for the floppy drive at boot.
As your don't have a floppy disk drive a message comes to alert you that it hasn't been found.

What you have to do is to enter BIOS (F2) and disable the floppy drive so it won't be scanned and you won't receive the message.

My Two Cents:

Please remember Sevenforums assistance is free unless you decide to donate!

Reading through threads you started, I don't see where anyone is being rude! Frustrated with your responses, YES!

Most, if not all of us are more than willing to work with you to further your understanding of computers in general, and your issues specifically.

What is frustrating to us is when Original Posters don't read the forum rules, and specific ones for each specific category.

Additionally, a long narrative rambling, although it may be nice when reading a novel, without addressing the specific questions required, surely doesn't help us in helping you to resolve your issues!

Wishing you and yours the best!

trust me Snick I have learned a lot here, perusing one issue has often lead to me fixing 3 others never posted. but know of no other info to put in my box, and since remark was not ended with a explanation or a help or suggestion how to fix I can fathom, I perceived it as a ill response.

I have seen huge loss of civility on net forms, literal brutality, as such i thank you for your assurance and civility.

your like a mind reader right? :busted:

very good question, I put new one in about 2 years ago, How ever, because i had this 7 as a often not used "Juke Box" next to some very sensitive expensive stereo equip, I un plugged it, it was off net as well, I thought that may help my amp sound better, power line here is a day time (Hash) sound disaster, its not a exaggeration, I keep amp probe handy next to wall receptical and once watched what should be 120 volts go from 112 to 129, and the meter recorded that spike. another time lights blinked and my internal amp limit switch just shut the machine off  if it had been just fused I may have lost amp.

So my battery is probably poop as I told a friend yesterday, your opinion please

As well -when changing a battery is it best to leave computer "wall plugged in", which I know sounds suicidal---but how does memory preserve it self if machine is unplugged and battery is being replaced ?

also does that battery recharge it self

thanks, peace, safety and long naps

A CMOS battery normally last more than 5 years.
If your clock isn't loosing the time and date, I would say to leave as it is.
The coin battery isn't rechargeable. If you intent to replace it, my suggestion is to unplug the PS from the wall.
BIOS may loose the settings but on a Dell computer it will load the defaults and that is normally all you need.
