how to find missing manifest files?

Hi,

I try to make a Win7 system with ESU license to install updates again.

The System Update Readiness Tool reported several missing files. I fixed most of those by downloading the KB*.MSU files to CheckSUR\packages, and then running SUR again.

Now I'm left with a list of missing manifest files, and one missing exe file.
How can I find out from which KB*.MSU file these files can be extracted?

thanks,
Klaus

Thank you very much for the files.

Actually I would really prefer to download some CAB or MSU files directly from microsoft.com, and then extract the manifest files from those. Because then I can be 100% certain that they are genuine. This is not an accusation that you might have manipulated them, but I don't know where you got them from.

The problem is that I have no idea how to determine in which files these were included. While the knowledge base articles from Microsoft do list which files are included in the updates, these lists do not include the manifest files.

Bold text response: That is why WE are here to help you! Try Googling the manifest name, you will see that obtaining the KB that it came from is very difficult, quite often near impossible!

Where do you think I obtained the files?
Microsoft Catalog and from my drives.
I have 300,000+ cat, mum & manifests in my repository.
I am having trouble finding several of them. Been searching for a few days now. No luck whatsoever.
The great majority of my post are on Windows Update.
From experience, you will have a very difficult time ascertaining the KB numbers which you need to download from M$
Why would you think you could do that better?

Whow.

Thank you so far. I let SUR put them back in place.

For the remaining ones I wonder if the numbers behind "11.2.9500" help in finding the correct KB number.

For example Google finds "11.2.9600.17501" here:
KB302477, can't get rid of it

There this number is related to files from Internet Explorer.

Does this mean that other files with that same version number are also from Internet Explorer?`
For example one of the missing manifest files is:
amd64_microsoft-windows-i..osticstap.resources_31bf3856ad364e35_11.2.9600.17501_de-de_c454484b0b0b8546.manifest

some progress

I found two kb numbers with this method. And another one by searching for one of these version(?)-numbers in regedit.

11.2.9600.18738 is in KB4025341
11.2.9600.18837 is in KB4048957
11.2.9600.18860 is in KB4054518

Two more to go.

Kudos for the search/file location. That is how you search for the KBs you use search for the entire filename, no results, start using snippets of the name, I usually work my way from right to left removing characters. If no luck I start searching for the first numeric string from right to left. kudos on the registry search, I tried that on my registry too, but those files are not in my registry i.e. not on my computer.

I'm extracting the contents of the KB now, update.cat and update.mum are being renamed and all are being included in my repository. Great Job again, I'm impressed!

Check your PM (private message)
