Did you try disabling WMP rebooting, restarting WMP and rebooting?
Works for many WMP issues!

In searchbox type or copy and paste
Turn Windows Features Off
reboot
Turn on again
Reboot.

that shouldn't work, it's matter of Microsoft not updating the address of the meta data server on older OSes like 7 or 8.1. it is also clearly evident when you right click and choose Find Album Info, the adress of the top of the page is different in windows 10 it goes to musicmath-ssl.xboxlive.com. windows 7 and 8.1 use the defunct redir.metaservices.microsoft.com, it looks like it MAY be hard coded in the EXE or an DLL. i suppose i could try poking around with a resource hacker in the EXE and DLLs but, i get the notion it's not that simple.

Double, ya know,

everyone wants to be loved, :dinesh: :D

just dream for a second how loved you would be

if you showed us down trodden sheep

how to permanently internally change that CD title look up address,

so it worked again,

MS threw out OS 7 and its user's,

so fk them, as they did us,

and I say go for it.

Take the feature away and make it more inconvenient and, well you know the rest. I read the piece from Ghacks.net and the statement they claim from MS that they discontinued fai....metadata service was because of "customer feedback" is a bunch of hogwash. Why would customers not want one of the most attractive features of WMP? It worked fine and nobody that I know of complained.
I'm naturally paranoid when it comes to anything that MS does, maybe all of us Win 7 diehards should immediately turn off automatic updates since there isn't any forthcoming support from MS. Sort of like locking the back door to keep out the pests.

yes, when one remembers it appears MS is a stolen Steve Jobs product, and theres no honor among theives

I hope some one starts a Shut MS Out picture instructions page.

honestly they have earned it. now i can see why they'd dump paying to run metadata servers for an ages old media player (but, i argue its one of the best is not ONLY catalogers!) ever since Gates and Balmer left the board and merged with nokia and layed off 10K employees INCLUDING their Software Quality Assurance debt...

...I've seen so many updates wreak absolute chaos overnight in the enterprise environments i've worked at. i've spent entire days just trying to undo damage from UN vetted updates they have pushed out. i've seen win 10 go and fetch normal updates EVEN WHEN ON WSUS (enterprise update server where you must approve updates) and break stuff.

then the spy ware in windows 10, then constant major updates every 6 months that break things. then dumping stuff like WMP with no replacement on the horizon. etc etc

talk about disabling updates, another reason to spin up virtual machines with snap shots for perfect time capsules if need be.
