Wow, 41 seconds. That's fast.

Mine is 62 seconds. It's not bad either.

I didn't even need to tweak anything. I upgraded my Vista to Win7 without a clean install, and it's still fast.

My Vista was well-tuned though.

i wonder why i cant run boot racer, has anybody had issues with it in beta 7600 x64? mine will prompt the restart dialog box, then the system reboots, once in windows bootracer does not show up, but it runs in the background in task manager?

also if you are running dual boot, will the second count it takes you to push enter?

From my experience with bootracer it does not time the post or the restart. It start timing on the boot up i.e. when you see the windows logo. After you restart bootracer should show up on your desktop, but it maybe running in the background. After restart bootracer will time your "time to logon" which is from windows logo screen to desktop screen. The next time is "time to desktop which is the same as the first but with all application loaded.

So if bootreacer is running in the background after you restart, do not move your mouse or input any key for 2 minutes or when all application are loaded. After all application are loaded check to see if bootracer log you time result.

No programs can actually be running during that time. The OS Hasn't even started up yet.

I'm assuming that it just records the time and compares it to the new time at start up, meaning that if you start boot racer and the power goes out for 7 hours, it will say your reboot time is 25,200 some-odd seconds.

But I don't actually know for sure how it works.

No I think you are wrong with bootracer. Bootracer track your time only when you are actually booting to the desktop. Which mean it does not matter if you power off, it won't time the duration you are power off.

What I think you meant was the script called "restart time". This script logged the system clock as click OK on the restart promp. Then when your system reboot it measure the logged system clock to your current system clock. So it possible to go into bios and change your system clock before you boot to desktop and you can change your result as you see fit.

Actually I think bootracer is more accurate than restart time since it does not time everything in between like statup post raid post etc...

Right. Mine gets to the boot screen ("Starting Windows") in 15 secs, Logon screen in 40 and full desktop with everything loaded, CPU @0% in 48. A whole 10 seconds slower than previously b/c of installed software.

But I don't actually know for sure how it works.

What i meant was because i utilize a dual boot configuration, after the post screen i have 2 options to select between operating systems, what i was trying to figure out was if boot racer is affected by the amount of time it takes you to select the operating system, if Boot Racer creates a time stamp from the time you click yes to reboot, this time stamp would be affected by everything you do between the time of exiting windows, however this is obviously not the case, as if you decided to force a shutdown or enter the BIOS while the boot racer test is in progress this would affect your score.

programs that run in windows are loaded at some point whilst the loading logo is shown, which is where boot racer is beginning its 'counting' cycle.

hey it beats mine. whats your ssd like? i been thinking of just getting a cheap one from somewhere, but not in Australia as most things like ssd's are overpriced here, it almost always cheaper to buy in the USA.

have you ran HD Tune on it by any chance? i would be interested to see the results ;)

maybe if i get 2 cheap ssd's and run it in raid 0 (i have never used raid so i will be a noob at it) it might be as fast as 1 good quality ssd?

I got a 120gig ocz solid series ssd of ebay $150 and got it shipped to Ireland for an extra $30 on top of that, the performance gain is totally worth it to be honest! I would recommend going for a good quality ssd ahead of putting 2 cheapies in raid though because the ssd model thats just above mine on the ocz range is actually more than twice as fast as it has cache and a better controller among other things and its not double the price!

Thanks for the info, ill be looking into it. i did find a Silicon Power 32gb sata2 ssd 165/95mb/s which is ok. i can get the 2 for $280aud.

yeh 42 is pretty good!

i scored 69seconds and my system is as is in my specs, but i also have quite a few start-up programs including the vista sidebar for win7 and 6 gadgets which slows the boot time a bit. once i get the new win7 oem pro i will be testing it with just the drivers installed to see what it gets as a true benchmark.

hey it beats mine. whats your ssd like? i been thinking of just getting a cheap one from somewhere, but not in Australia as most things like ssd's are overpriced here, it almost always cheaper to buy in the USA.

have you ran HD Tune on it by any chance? i would be interested to see the results ;)

maybe if i get 2 cheap ssd's and run it in raid 0 (i have never used raid so i will be a noob at it) it might be as fast as 1 good quality ssd?

I can't really compare it with anything else - I'm a noob with SSDs; I was just filling my shopping basket up, and thought I'd give it a try - 100 quid for a 64GB desktop kit, was the cheapest by a mile. There certainly seem to be faster SSDs out there, but I'm amazed at the speed of this TBH.

Oh, and no noise - for the 1st time in years, I've actually built a system where I can actually hear the wall clock tick! I stuck a Be-Quiet 650w power supply in the case (Antec Sonata) which has dedicated fan power leads - these ramp up on power-on to get the fans pinning, but then modualte the speed depending on power-demand from the PSU - a very neat idea, and when performing light-load tasks results in an almost silent system - the F3's clicking are the loudest component! (Stuck a passive cooled 4670 Ultimate in to keep it quiet.)

Don't know anything about HD tune - what does that do?
