system repair disk - is it specific to machine it was created on?

Hello all,
I have just created a system image for my HP desktop.
As I understand things, in order to restore from this system image, I need to create also a system repair disk.

Well I can't, because my HP desktop doesn't have a disk burner.

But my Dell laptop does, so my question is, can I create the required system repair disk on the laptop, then use it to restore the HP from its system image ? Or would the system repair disk also have to have been created on the HP?

In other words, is a system repair disk specific to the machine it was created on, or can it (once created), be used to restore any machine from that machine's system image?

The "repair disc" is created from winre.wim on the hard disk.

Your hp might have some extra drivers the oem has added to winre.wim which the other machine does not. And vice versa.

You can borrow mine. It should work on just about all machines

There is one system-specific requirement, the number of bits. It has to be the same as that of the Windows in the system image being restored.

So to restore an image of a 32-bit Windows 7 machine you need a repair disk made on a 32-bit machine, and for an image with a 64-bit system in it you must use a 64-bit repair disk.

Why cant you copy the iso via the network to the other pc and create it there or create a usb stick not a dvd

1. Recdisc.exe does not offer to create an iso file.

It only offers to create a cd/dvd directly, therefore it requires a cd/dvd drive.

I have reached the point where everything on my new / used PC appears to be working.
I ran a Backup and it appears to have been successful.
The System offer to create a System Repair Disc.
When I agree, I receive the following message:



I do not understand why and haven't found the solution to this error.

Any thoughts about how to fix this?

It looks like it can't find winre.wim.
