Is my W7 laptop finished?

Forgive me I am 78 years old and a techno thicky. For some years I have been using a Toshiba Satellite L300 laptop. It had Windows 7 on it when purchased and I never had an issue until a few weeks ago when it would not start up. All I got was a box saying "Enter Current Password". No matter which password I have ever used once it was entered and I press the enter button the password is deleted and the box returns. I have tried pressing buttons F1 to F12 without result also other 'suggestions' such as holding down space bar when switching on etc have proved useless. Is there a solution I can perform at home or do I purchase a new laptop? Any advice would be gatefully received. Best wishes.... Neil

Here is one thing you could try:

Password Reset

If you dont have suitable bootable media, you can borrow mine:

extract the 17514x86.iso file to a usb stick using usb7ice ( attached below)

The password it is asking for is not the Windows password. It's not even getting as far as booting Windows. You are being asked for a BIOS password, without which it will not start up or boot from anything - not even SIW2's usb. This BIOS password can be reset.
