I have about 15 files, like: "{93E0630B-768C-11ED-9498-5CF3706C844C}" under the windows directory -totalling about 35 gig.
What are they and can I delete them?

So they're system files? Installation files?
Can I simply delete them?

If they are system files they will be locked and you need diskclean to remove them its safer anyway as it wont delete files needed

Is your issue related to this issue?

The screenshots that moonman produced came from a program called Process Explorer or Process Hacker.

If I was sitting at your computer I more than likely could find out the source. Perhaps searching the registry with those GUIDs could shed light on what is using those files.

Also, if the files have any human readable text in them then Notepad ++ can open them. That way you can see just maybe what they are for.

That refers to folders, these are files.

I'm not using nor do I have either installed.

I've searched through the registry and there is no mention of ANY of the 20 or so files I'm seeing.
FWIW, the the largest 20gb files was created and accessed and last modified 12.2022.

Also, if the files have any human readable text in them then Notepad ++ can open them. That way you can see just maybe what they are for.

They appear to be stacked error messages, this was the first entry:
******* garbage characters **************
A disk read error occurred
BOOTMGR is missing
BOOTMGR is compressed
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

I'm moving the largest of them off the drive now and am going to reboot to see. I don't see what else to do.

hi

considering those error messages i wouldn't be surprised if thier system repair files, or restore points.
are you dual booting???

suggest you run sfc /scannow
and dskchk

then reset, (clear), system restore

hi

Well, it couldn't have been restore points, (I'm glad you mentioned it) as the amount of space I'd allotted was too small even for ONE R/P!
I changed it.
are you dual booting???
No.
suggest you run sfc /scannow
and dskchk

I had already run chkdsk and all was well.
I moved the file - the 20gb file - away and rebooted (several times now) and all was well - I dunno.
then reset, (clear), system restore
Enlarging the space pretty much took care of that that.

Is the hard drive old. I'd check it for errors. First you'd want to look at the SMART data and then scan the drive.
All good. It's a Samsung SSD about a year old and already been checked.

All done.

I've deleted most of the files with no problems. The latest modified one was 7-8 months ago, so I figure I'm ok.

I'm going to post another question regarding my problem of extended boot times.
