Solved Cut & Paste breaks Windows Explorer

If I do a copy & paste of a file to another location like from my Desktop to My Documents all is fine but if I do a cut . . when I try to paste it Windows Explorer quits responding. Has anyone ever seen this problem. I cannot think of any new installed programs that could have caused it as I hardy ever add programs to this machine because all the new apps go on my Win-11 computer.

From start menu look for command prompt. Right click and select run as administrator. Type sfc /scannow into the black box and hit enter. Let it run. The scan could take 15 minutes and you might have to reboot.

It might be a context menu handler. Download Autos, run and wait for everything to load. Go to File and save the ARN file. Zip the ARN file and upload here and I'll have a look. Autoruns for Windows - Sysinternals | Microsoft Learn

Does the same thing happen in safe mode? Advanced startup options (including safe mode) - Microsoft Support

Just safe mode, nothing else.

I have autoruns but I will try safe mode first and post back. Tried the sfc /scannow before posting my question

The issue did not exist in Safe Mode so I revisited startup in msconfig where I had only two items. I deselected DropBox and the problem is solved. Perhaps a reinstall of DB will cure it or I will just leave it installed but not load at startup but I have not used it in almost a year.

I'm glad you fixed it. This would have been useful for us to know initially.
