Solved windows 7 premium to ultimate/pro in 2023

Hello all,

I dual boot,,,, windows 7 for getting works done and windows 10 for things that won't run on 7 like streetsmart from schwab and turbotax.

I upgraded the ram to 32 to realize premium limits to 16... I sometime grind big sketchup and sony vegas files. Anyway, is there a way in 2023 i can get to Pro or ultimate via a download or purchase somewhere? file archive???

Would this work without destroying my currently working well 7?

I have a Pro activation key from an old scrapped Dell laptop.

You dont need to download a separate iso. The files needed for Pro edition are already on your pc.

make a backup image first.

It is quite easy only takes a few minutes.

in start search box type anytime upgrade.



put any win7 pro key in. It doesnt need to be an "upgrade" key.



it will run for a min




then claim it has failed. It hasnt.

reboot and the edition upgrade completes.





after the edition upgrade has completed

press the windows+pause/break key to open the system window

then enter the key to activate.

It did not say failed,,,, after the automatic restart it said "success" Just checked and the system is using all 32 gb of ram.

Thanks for this. For me it stayed at the "Starting Upgrade, May take at least minutes" screen for about 5 hours. The first time, after a few hours, I stopped it and rebooted becauseone guide says if it takes nore then 15 minutesthen to start over, got to blue "Preparing Configuration do not shut down" screen for many hours. Woke up to windows 7 home still.

I tried again. I wasnt sure it was working, but I could see the hard-drive indicator light was active. Sat on the "staring upgrade, may take at lrast 10 minutes". 5 hours later my system has rebooted as window 7 pro.

Window pops up, "The upgrade was successful and your computer is ready to use"

Now I can leave this laptop downstairs and ssh access it with my workstation laptop.

You can upgrade the version from the command line.

You can get the commands from here: Upgrading to a higher edition (SKU) of Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 R2 using DISM | Morgan Simonsen's Blog

You can use the command parameter Get-TargetEditions to check which versions are available to you first, then you can set it to a new version using Set-Edition. First you have to set it to the default key listed here: SIW - What is Windows Default Product Key

After a couple of reboots Windows will be set to the new edition using the default key. Then you use activate windows to set it to your private key. You can't set it to your key using dism. You have to set it to the default key first. Remember you must run the command prompt as an administrator first.

Aren't generic keys only good for the 30 day trial period?

One time I bought a Pro key so I could upgrade. When I tried to change the current key to the new one I got an error. I was told to first change the current key to a Pro generic key. After I did that the upgrade started. After the computer booted I changed the generic key to the key that I bought.

If you can get download a copy of the Windows installable media, you can install it to a computer and enter a Generic Product Key to complete the installation. However, between thirty and ninety days later, the Windows Activation notice will pop up to let you know your product key is invalid. You can’t activate Windows using Generic Product Key.

it doesn't need to be a special upgrade key. Any win7 pro key will do. It is just to upgrade the edition. It does not activate at this point.











It might say it has failed. Dont worry reboot and the upgrade will complete.



Now enter a valid key in the normal way to activate
