Is it safe to use windows 7 in 2025?

You must have KB3140245 and EasyFix installed to enable TLS 1.2/fix MSE. It's not going to fix

When I restart, it says they can't be installed, and it undoes all the changes.

anyway.

I think as long as you don't download pirated software and tools that are high-risk you should be fine. Most of the AVs are still compatible with Windows 7 so you should be fine.

Welcome to the forum, Derekinofa. :-)
I gave up pirated software some years ago. I'm using MSE, Glasswire Firewall and Malwarebytes. I don't know if MB is still reliable, as I haven't been following the tech news.

Anyone have any idea why the most recent KBs won't install?

If they're reporting error code 80092004, you don't have KB4490628 installed.

Short Answer: Depends
Long Answer:
Most forums don't support Windows 7 anymore, so some issues will probably have to be self troubleshooted. For security reasons you probably shouldn't, but if you do have common sense and an antivirus you should be alright.

Yup. This forum is still going strong, and I've have great support here, also on mozillazine.org and the Eclipse Community site, developers of the r3dFox browser, specifically made RECENTLY for Win 7.

You're registered on over 100 forums? Interesting. How do you keep up with them? Are you a professional techie?

25 years on the internet so I've joined quite a few forums over the years. Now that I think about it, more like 500. 200 auto related forums alone. Doesn't mean I'm active in all of them.

The question, "Is Windows 7 (or any other version) safe..." - is always going to draw many different opinions. Basically, it comes down to what you do online, how often, how much knowledge you have re: internet safety, and how much uncertainty you can live with (or, another way to put it, how paranoid you are). We all have our sweet spot in that regard. Mine, as I have said many times on this forum, is to use W7 for the one thing I really need it for, music creation. I keep it offline by default, but go online if I need to (but not to just surf the net). I update MSE when I do so, and run a quick scan afterward. Then I disable the network adapter. For my everyday browsing, I use Linux mint on another computer.

Other folks of course have different sweet spots. To each their own. If what you are doing is working - you are not getting malware - great. Hopefully things will stay that way. If you do get malware, you will need to do things differently.

Speaking of safety, are Glary Utilities and Malwarebytes still considered reliable? Otherwise I'll switch them out.

So this makes the OS more secure? Is anyone still writing viruses for Win 7 ?
This allows MSE to continue updating.

Windows 7 gets the same virus definition updates as win 11. A for "Is anyone writing viruses for Win 7", new viruses, no, but for the $0 cost why not run MSE just in case.

Because the updates refuse to install in my computers. See my previous posts on this.

No problems on forums either with Win 7.

In my opinion, compatibility issue more matters than security issue. UAC is doing their job since Vista.

I use the ESET firewall and it blocks 1000+ connections per day, most of them coming from Microsoft.
