So for weeks I've tried Digital Rivers installers, the ISO at a slow burn... I now have the actual DVD backup from Digital River that I bought from them... I STILL am getting the 0x80070241 error that mentions corrupt files.

How is it possible that their DVDs they are mailing are just as bad as the downloads people have been having problems with? I have tried switching DVD Rom drives, testing the HD, re-formatted my HD with a clean install of XP and trying the custom upgrade to 7 and I get the same error everytime...

I have gotten this error with every install I do.

Hello and welcome to windows 7 forums.
I empathize with you and we are here to assist you.
First off are you installing Windows 7 X64 or X86?
Next what is the type of install? Upgrade or full/clean install
And last, what method are you attempting/DVD media or a bootable flash drive?

Sorry... I forgot most the BIG details...

- I have winXP Pro going to Win7 Pro x86
- I'm doing the custom install (I believe thats the only one you can do)
- DVD Media is what I am using. This is the genuine backup DVD Digital River mails you if you choose to buy the backup.

At what point during the install do you get the error? Do you have SATA drives and also a SATA DVD drive?

Have you considered installing from a USB flash drive?

Sorry to leave you but I'm back and have researched your issue a little bit more. Are you able to see how your DVD player is connected inside the pc?
I'm concerned that the connection may need to be changed.
If you don't see a ribbon connection/ but a thin red cable connected to a small connection port we will need to go back into bios.

    Dear Reader,
After months of research on Windows Vista Setup Process, I've found the most suitable technique to avoid most setup errors and to verify the following:
1- Downloaded file is valid for setup.
2- Determine whether the DVD image you burnt is damaged or the downloaded file.
3- Issues concerning Install.WIM file (master setup file).
    Tool needed:
Microsoft Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel v2.0.1.1
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/7/b/6/7b6abd84-7841-4978-96f5-bd58df02efa2/winxpvirtualcdcontrolpanel_21.exe
    Steps:
1- Run the winxpvirtualcdcontrolpanel_21.exe tool to extract it.
    2- Double Click: VCdControlTool.exe
3- Click Driver Control, Install Driver then browse for VCdRom.sys file and select Open then start then Ok.
4- Click Add Drive then Click Mount and browse for your vista file you downloaded and Open then don't check any option and click Ok.
Now you have a virtual copy of the Vista DVD, you can perform the following:
    - Copy the entire DVD contents to local hard drive as offline/network setup source.
    - Copy the Install.WIM to the local hard drive in case of failure of adding this file to DVD image during burn process.
    - Verify that this downloaded file is valid for setup (By copying entire contents to local hard drive and perform installation from it) so that if there were any DVD burnt image not working, so the error from the burn process and NOT the downloaded file.
To perform clean installation from the local hard drive directly:
1- Do NOT perform setup from the Virtual DVD you just mounted your vista file in.
2- Copy entire DVD contents to local source folder named for example: "WINDOWS VISTA".
3- Perform the setup process as clean installation (UPGRADING BETA SOFTWARE NOT RECOMMENDED).
This method avoids you having many setup issues regarding DVD image, bad Install.WIM file reading and many more!

Mornin' Adrian!
The BIOS reads the DVD drive fine under Primary IDE

Some people claim the SATA installs are a problem, but it recognizes the SATA drive fine and shows it too and begins to write so I can't imagine its that? I almost was going to try an IDE install.

Hi Zoo, I have been reading over the technet notes and I see that Vista had the same issues during installation. Since you are installing over xp I suggest that you make a folder on your C: drive and then make a folder C:\WINDOWS and copy everything from the installation dvd that you received and run the executable from within the folder.

Have you eliminated all extra stuff not needed for the install, 2nd monitor, TV, TV Card, Printers, Ext USB HD's, Flash Drives, Hubs, Web Cams, etc. NO RAID setup in the bios. You list 2 HD's in your specs, which HD are you trying to install win7 to ?

Have you thoroughly read these two help threads here at sevenforums ?

I'm trying to install 7 to the 250GB WDigital SATA.

I tried installing this at my work PC (its ok I own the company) and it has an IDE drive and was fine, so I'm almost thinking it has something to do with the SATA drive and installing to it. I might swap out to the 80GB 7200 IDE and run all my files and backups on the 1TB SATA and just use the IDE as a Windows dir drive.
