Shadows look terrible now that I've upgraded...

I had been running Windows XP 32-bit up until a couple days ago, and now that I've upgraded to Windows 7 64-bit I'm having various problems with games and other software. One of the bigger issues right now is that shadows look absolutely terrible in every game I've played (currently Borderlands, Shattered Horizon and Left 4 Dead). They look really blocky and grainy, especially when viewed up close. I never had this problem with XP.

I checked my graphics driver and it's up to date. The rest of the graphics seem to more or less be okay, as far as I can tell. I've checked to make sure that the shadows are turned up to full, and they are. Any ideas what's causing this or what I can do to try and fix it? I'm not very tech savvy, just as an FYI.

if you havnt allready maybe check your graphics cards website and see if there is a new driver specifically for windows 7 or any updates involving windows 7, thats the only thing i could think of that would cause it. it fixed my issues once i downloaded the new gtx 260 drivers from nvidia for windows 7.

oh and if you do allready have the windows 7 drivers for your gpu try checking your graphics card manufacturers forums on their site and see if anyone is having any similar issues

I checked the graphics card website before I came here, and they said I was completely up to date. Windows 7 automatically downloaded the drivers for me too. I'llcheck around the other forums when I'm done here.

Here's a couple of screenshots showing what I'm talking about.

That's just what the shadows look like in Borderlands even at the highest quality.
