I have four Windows 7 machines with Windows Live Mail on each machine. I have been able to transfer my messages and contacts from one machine to another just fine. What I want to do now is transfer the message rules from one machine to all the others.

Does anyone know how to export and import message rules?

Thanks

In the Registry
export the key
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Rules]

to a file. Take the file to the other computer, and merge it into that registry.

Thanks for the tip. It almost works.
I exported the "Mail" key from machine #1 and imported it into machine #2 just fine. Opening WLM on machine #2 I can see all the rules but with a couple of exceptions they are all "X"ed out. The error says they need the name of the folder to move to. It seems the link to the folders the messages were supposed to move to was lost in the transfer. I have manually created the same folders in machine #2. The only rules that were OK were not associated with any folder.(delete and mark red)

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try Windows Easy Transfer. It should work. If you do not want to tranfer everything that WET offers. You will come to a point that you can check or uncheck what you want, then hope for the best

Worked for me

In the Registry
export the key
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Rules]

to a file. Take the file to the other computer, and merge it into that registry.

This worked fine for me. To correct the "x" in each rule go to that rule and associate it with the correct file at the end of the rule.

I want to do this, but am terrified of doing anything with the registry as I belive it could wreck the pC if I do anything wrong.

Is it posisble to explain in 'ABC-book' fashion how to do this change to the registry please?

Cheers.
